Default 2.0L injection pinto starts but wont hardly rev

Got mk 2 escort with 2.0L injection pinto engine, car will start but throttle needs playing with to keep it running, I can build the revs up and floor it but it will only go to about 3000rpm then it dies back down again. Any ideas? Have thought about air flow meter, throttle body (which from looking appears to be working) or could it be ECU? Cheers

Idle speed control valve is first on the list

then it's the air flow meter, push the flap and see if you can feel it sticking anywhere, if you can it's fubar and you need anoher one

It's on the side of the inlet manifold, at the top above the rocker cover from memory, looks like a metal tube with wires comic out of it about 6 inches long and it's got a step in it and 2 little bolts holding it in place

Cool! yes iv seen it and wonderd wot it"s job was! lol.Is ther any way of cheking it or just replace it? No havent touched timing atall.Although when it first happened,i initially thought it had sliped on the timing belt or something like that but all looked tickety boo and she still starts kinda ok so hence im looking in to throttle system.

Check the 1 or 2 breathers under the inlet they may have come off and are sucking in air ?
Have you checked the fuel presure reg ?

Does sound a bit like a fuel pressure problem.
