the boost sensor is the map sensor on the near side inner wing, as for the lost boost there could be an air leak, do a pressure test using a air comprerssor and suitable adapter inlet the turbo

It might be something as simple as the actuator may have been re connected on the wrong side of the bracket. Loosen the nut on the actuator rod and then wind the rod towards you. (Towards the wing nearest to it). Give it a couple of turns then lock off the nut, then try it.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

If it's had an engine rebuild then I'd personally take it to a tuner for a setup, that way they'll find your lost boost and make sure it's still safe.

as gary said mate , dont go adjusting things you aint sure about ,

may well just be a boost leak

consult a tuner or the whole thing may need rebuilding again in the not to distant future lol

Cheers Scotty lad. For some reason I cant start a new thread.

Yeah I am thinking the same about a possible leak as I can hear a squealing noise when I bring it onto boost.

The car has a new style wiring harness on it and When I have built the engine back up the only connector I have free is the boost one. I cannot even remember taking this off because I took photos of everything. I did not adjust anything an the actuator or play with anything i didnt know about to be honest. God knows but i'm sure I will find out .

Thanks peeps

Tomma,

As said mate, get the old girl down to MSD or one of the trusted tuners and get it set up properly....It'll only cost about Ł150 + the fuel there and back.....

Drop in the ocean on your wages kid

Maybe you have the pipes from amal valve to turbo and actuator the wrong way round? Simple to do really

There is no such thing as a boost sensor, if he has had it rebuilt then he will be running it in, so should not be running any boost. First thing to check is if the Amal valve is working, but more than likely the boost has been turned down anyway because of the rebuilt engine.

Martysmartie all I have done was replace the head gasket and had my pistons skimmed and pocketed. I have an engine wiring harness which is labelled up from new and on the tag it has boost on it with a connector to be plugged into somewhere. It is not my MAP sensor one as this is already connected.

I have Just noticed that my dump valve is constantly open during tick over..Any ideas??

The "Boost" connector will be a 2 pin one and should be connected to your amal valve which is / was bolted to the top of the intercooler.

Split diaphragm in your dumpvalve , split boost hose maybe ? Seems odd that youve lost 8psi

That makes sense, it's the Amal valve connector as Stu and I mentioned above, with it disconnected you will run lower boost, it's mounted on top of the intercooler.

Are you sure? If it didnt open when you lift your foot, it would never operate and release the boost. Are you sure yours wasnt a twin piston one and just the secondary piston was closed?

Normally with rs500 cooler amal valve is positioned either with a bracket bolted to slam panel or bolted to drivers side inner wing.

Simply trace the pipes back from actuator and compressor housing, they should connect to the valve, this is assuming they haven't plumbed the compressor housing direct to the actuator in addition to disconnecting the valve?

JOB DONE....!!!! Well the reason I couldnt find the Amal valve is that it has been by passed... Will this cause any problems and why do people bypass them??

ANyway my boost issue is now sorted. I could hear a high pitched noise coming from the passenger side whin on boost. Into further investigation I done a bit of digging and found out that the problem was my inlet manifold gasket was split. New one fitted and now sweet as a nut.

Time to get on my RL7s and full set of ambers then a trip down to MSD for set up.

Marvellous
