Despite what it states on that website you linked to, I don't think the RS500's ever got close to 200mph on Conrod - most topped out at circa 180mph.

Here is a sentence from that link.

Many Sierra's were timed at over 300 kph (200 mph) on Bathurst's notorious Conrod straight especially during qualifying!

Please note what is saying 300kph which is 186mph. Andy Rouse confirmed that Dicks car reached 302kph at Bathurst which is 187mph.
580bhp is simply not enough Power to reach 200mph. Its the error that started the 200mph myth.

hi rob

no mate nothing is sold lol, dont tell the missus though ,although the 4b is for sale ,the s1 i got a few weeks ago.
the thing with this car is it done some rallycross so the bulkhead was moved back 10 inches for weight distribution and has a massive gearbox tunnel it would easily take a skyline engine and box ,but being a fordman true and true i think it will need a big yb in her .
its a longterm project ,but i will speak to you on a engine as i got a tko box with her

no one has ever officially hit 200mph at bathurst. a few years ago some of the teams datalogging showed it but the governing body made the teams run a lower diff ratio the next year to slow them down.

When I was putting our old cosworth through Australian compliance, the engineer doing the inspection told me he used to be involved with the race versions and that Glenn Seton had topped over 200 mph in testing. As has been stated the cars were restricted down in the actual races but were capable of far more power in unrestricted form in Aus as these were the last of the RS500 evolutions and carried on for a full year after they were shackled in europe.

If you do a google search for "gearboxman", then in the results click "gear calculator", once on the site click "normal version" then you can play with different size tyres and ratio's etc

2wd diff is 3.64
T5 box 5th gear is 0.8

Doug, the stormtrooper has a T5 with a Glebe straight cut dog engagement gear kit, 1st is stupidly long as you know, and will pull 70mph? 5th is a standard 0.8 as far as I can remember, might be 0.79 or 0.81 though, I seem to remember it being very close to if not standard. If you give them a call, they will be able to advise you on the ratios, as I rang up for Steve when he had the car

Its great to see this interest in Topspeed again it was 2003 that Bruce set that 3 door record. You will need 620 horses to beat it.

The only involvement Rouse had with the aussie 500s was supplying customer cars and driving such cars over there in the early years. Thats like asking Ron Dennis how much real power the red bulls are running, only the people who built the actual cars know the real facts.

The home grown last version of the Johnson Rs500s and the Seton cars were very different from their euro cousins, very well developed but also heavily handicapped, let loose they still gave godzilla a run for its money.

Ask the man on the street, or any ford fan what the ultimate cosworth was and it would always be one of these, which is why they change hand now for Ł150,000 plus

I hope the bullshit tag was not aimed at me Rod.

thanks for the info mate, but to be honest i want a cossie for abit of sprinting as ive had a high speed crash before and i just couldnt take a sierra upto 180mph lol.....

im looking at the cts stage 2 box with the close ratio set up and uprated selector folks ect ....

im pretty handy at launching a rwd aswel so what sort of times is possible in a 3dr with 520+ hp and near to 500lbs with no lag???

Found the times at last.

Remember these times are from the car when it was fitted with a T34.48, 803s, 500 intercooler. About 340bhp.

0-60 - 5.364
0-100 - 11.776
0-110 - 13.819
0-120 - 16.181
0-130 - 20.541
0-140 - 24.837
0-150 - 30.127
0-160 - 38.450

That was my fastest run upto 160,the car did peak at 162.2mph.

My fastest 0-60 on the day was 5.041, 0-100 was 11.147 and 0-150 was 29.853.

Timed by Fast Ford Mag for a XR4i thrash.

It takes over 700bhp to reach 200mph more down a straight like Conrod.
These were old fashioned t4 engine cars which would have struggled to reach 600bhp. They were great cars but please have a dose of reality about their capabilities .

Decided to find out the facts this guy was racing in period & holds the fastest ever speed down Conrod set in 1998. I will find out its Power but it will be over 700bhp.

Driver Tony Southwell, a.k.a. Wild Thing, has been involved in NASCAR since it's inception in Australia in 1988, as crew member, driver and team owner.
"The Fireworks King" Chev Monte Carlo NASCAR fastest ever race car in any division down Conrod straight at Bathurst (200.37 MPH)(319.76 KMH), 1998.(Record still stands 2011)
