Default Oil control ring help??

Right guys this might sound a stupid question to some of you but this is the first time iv ever built high performance engine (zetec turbo) so obviously want everything to be spot on.now iv gapped the top and middle piston rings no problem but just want to know about the oil ring.with it being a 3 piece do the 2 silver rings need gapping the same as the top and middle ring? And im not sure if you will see in the pics or not but the gold zig zag ring overlaps itself a fair bit do i just cut this so each end butts together?

NO the oil ring ends don't need gapping, you need to squeeze all the ziggy part in the groove when fitting the pistons in the bore/s.

Although chances of them needing any work is very slim.

But the instructions for the rings would tell you all this info ?

Cheers tabetha but whats the best way of doing this? Iv seen people do it with long noes pliers before to scrunch the ziggy bit together untill it fitted in the groove a a whole if that makes sense?

You dont scrunch anything.

The ziggy bit is butted end to end. Then the upper and lower ring is installed.

Any proper ring set should come with instructions as to ring end gap, and end gap positions.

Agreed, don't crunch anything, never a good idea

I understand why your having problems though as it confused the hell out of me when I built my cvh, I bought goetze rings and all the pack showed was a diagram if the ring positions. I think Rob DOHC had a similar problem and I don't think he used cheap rings either.

How do you mean where should the ring end sit? if you mean the 2 thin rings with the wavy ring? One thin ring should sit 180 deg from the other, and the wavy ring buts at 90 deg to that!

Wouldn't bother buying new rings as they will probably be the same.

If your concerned about anything I would give the lads at NMS a bell, sure they won't king answering any questions a year down the line.
