Default Exhaust Noise Decibels..

Iv got a mongoose exhaust on my 3dr with only a back box, I got a letter in the post saying my cars excessively noisy so I have to get it tested, Does anyone have any idea hat DB reading it will get? Its a 450hp engine, K&N induction, T38 Turbo ,100 cell cat

Iv driven the car a whole 24 miles and got a letter already

The legal limit is 90DB but they also check the sound when the engine is de-accelerating

There is no such legal limit, that's balls.

There isnt any government approved test equipment, there isnt any limit, there isnt any test procedures laid out.

Who exactly is the letter from ?

No idea then lol

Sounds like he maybe has neighbours that need burnt out or something.

A friend recently moved to Oz and took his 2003 STI with him. It didnt have a cat fitted, and he had no problems registering it and getting it passed for the road ?

Weird...he had no problems whatsoever getting it road legal and registered over there

And what a ridiculous fine over nothing. CAT's serve little useful purpose in the first place !

theres no issue geting them registered as long as you have a valid roadworthy (MOT) and you can get these easily through dodgy garages etc The issue is when Vicroads (dvla) or the police pul you over and check over the car and give you a canary or worst i EPA give you notice to have a full check over the car thats when your screwed thats why im lucky it was only a noise test

Aaron, I've been using 'Daalder Exhaust' and I've seen them with the sound test equipment out on cars ... so they'll know the details required.

I can vouch for the one near me ... although there is one in Dandynong, but I haven't been to that one.

I got pulled over once by the police cause 'your engine revs noisy', but I have a Scorpian system on and its quiet at idle. A quick look at the car and check my licence and I was on my way with no issues.

You know what annoys me ... Harley Davidson noise levels ... yet they get hung up on cars.

Harleys are delivered to australia with pee shooter exhausts mate and get swaped over at the shop thats how they pass adrs.

Yh mines not really that noisey imo theres v8s with a hell of alot more noise.. It was more down to the fact the exhaust was blowing out smoke due to the turbo.. Il be going to the same place but in dandenong mate.. How are the guys down by you?

After getting messed about and blown off several times from Performance Exhaust at Airport West ... Daalder were v helpful. I dealt with Dwayne, who even after the suppliers lost my order kept me in the loop and completed the job on time when he could.

I test the water with my other car ... so yes, I'd be happy taking the Cos there for work now.

On the TX3 Turbo they changed my stainless straight through with a stainless baffled one, as I was trying to quieten it down. Installed with a flanged fitting and modified my straight through with flanges so I can bolt it back on when I want ... they were happy to do what I requested.

One time I was there they had the sound measuring equipment on a VE SS doing testing ... so they should be able to sort it.

Hopefully Dandy will be just as helpful.

If you were seen blowing smoke ... your not up for an emmisions test are you?
