Im looking into buying a focus rs and found this one, but would you stay clear because of the cat d?
He says it was rear bumper damage and they put a cat d on it because ford don't do te bumpers anymore?
He's set me pics and it looks ok.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-FORD-FOCU...item2a0ca86733
Also what are the like to re-sell?
Cheers

Most damaged FRS will end being cat D in the future as a lot of parts are no longer available.
If there is written proof of the bumper incident, there shouldn't be a problem reselling, at a similar discount to the price you would pay now as a cat d.

Looks like a tidy one! I would rather take a cat d one in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, than one that is not on the regster and is a bit ropey all round.
Just don't forget that it will probably never be worth the same as one that isn't on the register, and may be more difficult to sell on.

Looks worth the money mate, my lad paid Ł7500 for a Cat D with 46,000 miles so its not far off.
Offer him Ł7250 and see what happens, always a buyers market near Christmas![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
If you looking at keeping it for a few years then the re-sale value is irrelevant, you won't lose out.
Good luck

Wouldnt put me off.
Think the "buy it now" price is a bit high for a car thats on the register, regardless of the mileage. Theres genuine ones out there at that money/condition, slightly higher mileage, for not much more.
Ł6500 in the "make me an offer" box, would sweeten the deal IMO.

Hpi check should tell you the type of impact, think it costs a touch more but worth it.
Don't let cat d put you off, your getting the car cheaper this end so just make sure it's sold a touch cheaper in the future, there's plenty of us out there that don't give two shits about cat d.

Wouldnt bother me being a cat d although as already said It should be a bit cheaper but at least the guy Is up front about It Ive seen a car on here recently where the owner was clearly trying to pull the wool regards a car being on the register that just makes you think what else he was trying to hide...

I'm looking for one at the moment, and sure i read this ad on Pistonheads over a week ago, which i'm pretty sure said "front end damage".
The ads only 3 days old now tho..... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!
Could be genuine, but...........
.......making me think now. Only cat C or D on Pistonheads atm.

Hi Stucos Gibby, I have owned the car since 2008 and have never advertised it before on PH or Ebay before now. The only reason its for sale now as my partner and I have recently had a baby and are purchasing a 4 door car this weekend, I think you must have this confused with some one elses add as this has only had to my knowledge and HPI`s knowledge 1 Cat D rear end incident, so if you dont mind please check all your facts before posting on a web site. I my self have advertised this Car with my 100% Feedback on ebay and welcomed any inspection either from a garage or independednt authority as i Have absolutely nothing to hide with my Focus Rs, I am a true RS enthusiast who does not want to be confused with a dodgy 2nd hand car dealer who has someting to hide.
regards

Why is it when i used to have a repaired right off everyone would think its previously rolled off a cliff ?? nowadays on here people seem to get all misty eyed and think a scratch or cracked bumper is all it takes to write a rs off.
Depending on the year a vcar recorded car was written off i'd say theres always a good chance it was heavier than being made out .
And i don't care what anyone says,if you have a genuine straight level hpi clear car needing work or paint to be a nice car again or a car thats a repaired rightoff i would always buy the hpi clear car as i have seen what cat d's can look like and i have seen hundreds of repaired cat d's for sale and seen loads of poorly repaired crap cars that are not right really. Ok some are very good but that hpi check people do when buying ruins it for me.
the only exeption i think is when a cat d is stinking cheap and then thats the clincher,if it isn't i'd keep looking.

I've seen more badly repaired cars not on the hpi list than one that are, so many people can get cars repaired cheap so dont go though insurance so no records, this was my others halfs v-tec civic it only needed a bumper I took the bumper off to check under it myself not damage at all it was a 3 - 5 mph crash, and this went down as a CAT C

steve that car does not look a spring chicken and if it was i reckon no make that i know the insurance would repair it.
as i said already a lot depends on the age and value also of the vehicle or the insurance company involved as to what happens if it goes cat d or c or even repair.

The gf's astra has been written off, cat d, twice now from other people hitting it, about to be written of for the third time soon, one "write off" netted from NU/Aviva Ł485 for a tiny dent about 4mm deep and 1" long, it was quoted for a complete rear 1/4, so we took the dosh and kept the car for free, it's a L reg merit 1.4 auto, it's so minor I don't even notice it most times when cleaning the car.
I've personally known a merc written off for a front wing before now, cat d.
