Bugeye Scooby WRX

Bugeye Scooby WRX
Evening all...
Forget how fast - more - are they reliable and ok for a daily driver?
If I look hard I can find sensible miles/no mods cars for 3-4k
Seems a bargain to me.

Bugeyes aren't desirable and the prices reflect that now and you will see classics going for more.
As a daily driver there is nothing wrong with them and they are nice cars, they aren't as raw as classics though and that's where the problem is. The classic will always be faster but the bugeye is heavier and nicer to be in because it's more refined but that isn't what Subaru owners want.

Got offered a classic estate yesterday for £750 with t&t.my old car I sold for £1500 four months ago but the guy needs out quick due to having 4 kids.needs some silly jobs but sadly no cash/job means it won't be coming back right now.240bhp lightweight import job as well, mechanically a1 with must be 8 months ticket as well.
Like the bugeye but their very unloved, the 53 plate on ones look nice but aren't that cheap.
3-4k for one of those is great value.

They are only around 215bhp as standard and only have the small TD04 turbo and they run out of puff very easily. It's easy to improve on that power though on those.

shings I had an o2 plate bugeye, used it everyday for 3 years, great car, easily modded, decat and full system with remap will see about 260bhp,only problem I had was cam sensor, normal problem with these.
insurance wasn't too bad either.

we had a 52 plate bugeye was a great all rounder car, got rid of it and replaced it with a 54 plate blob eye sti totally different beast sadly we sold it due to doing under a 1000 miles in a year basically sitting in the garage depriciating so it had to go

I have 2 to look at around 55k-65k miles 51/02 plate £3k to £3.6k with history and tax and test.
I think its a fair amount of car for the money and both are standard unmolested cars.

I'd buy one today at the right price but I wouldn't want a standard one....for long.
Ideally a WRX with PPP and an SL model would do me. It can then move (ish), looks ok and has a cow thrown at the seats to make the interior look better.
Not asking much am I

Here's my bugeye. Very rare car over here this model and took me ages to find one. It's a JDM STI model wagon, so has the sti engine (with avcs), turbo, intercooler, interior, 6 speed box. Common enough in saloon form but I love my wagons, I had the classic shape wagon before this and looked the whole time I had it for an sti.
Since taken the wheels back to standard
Regarding the wrx model, they are indeed a bargain. I was looking a few weeks back for a bugeye or late classic for my mrs and we found a few decent mileage bug eyes for £3000. The wrx is pretty slow in STD form but they are easy to get some respectable performance from. On a wrx I'd go for (all 2nd hand cheap on scoobynet) vf35 turbo (£250) fuel pump (£70) decat exhaust system (£250) remap (£500) these bits and you'll have 320/330bhp
My sti goes ok standard really, I've got a sports cat downpipe (as I can't be arsed with decats anymore) h&s exhaust (quiet) k&n panel filter. With the avcs on the sti they do go quite nicely.

remap on these less than £500- Speak to Jolly Green Monster on scoobynet, hes very very good at remapping and you dont need to buy the license, like you do with Ecutec (sp?) i think he quoted me about £300-He's reliable as well!

i recently sold my 02 bugeye. it had 18s,coilovers, sti 8 scoop, spoilers, sti headlights, fully decatted exhaust, uprated fuel pump, recent bottom end rebuild and remap for £3400! alot of car for the money. was for sale for months at 3700 but nobody seems to want them.
best car ive ever owned!
much nicer to drive than a cozzy but standard they are so slow! after the remap it was a completely different car. rapid off the mark but over 80 quick but not that quick but it was on a td04 turbo.
only sold it as insurance was far to expensive and mine was a uk version!.
used to get around 28mpg if i drove it nice.
