The buttons just push back on fella.I'd power down, leave it 5,take the cover off the base unit and have a good look in there.just be careful, take loads of photos and then just start disconnecting obvious things like the power supply, mother board etc.
You'll be shocked how dusty it will be in there so if theres compressed air handy, give itva good blast.
Keyboard wise there only about £10 brand new from morrisons, wouldn't bother fixing it myself.
The beeping is probably a jammed button or slight short through where the coffee landed.

You may need a new keyboard the bad thing is there not cheap (A few years a keyboard was £85) alone as there nothing like desktop's.
You then have to fit it which isn't easy dependent on laptop as most need to be dismantled to do, a job which isn't really for the end user.
That being said we once had a MAC which wouldn't power on as had the same thing happen, he took it home washed it with soapy water let it dry and it worked again!

Yes thats right, only the extended warranty things which cover's user damage would be of help to you, typical years warranty's only cover manufacturing faults etc, although it's worth checking.

Sounds like there are probably shorts in the keyboard matrix, anything worse than this and it wouldn't work at all.
Dismantling laptops isn't too hard, most of the time the screws for different types of part removals are pretty obvious, you can see what they line up against & go from there. Things like keyboards are generally built to come off without too much trouble. Depending on who made it you might find the service manual online.
As far as fixing the keyboard, wash it in plain (or if available purified) water (no soap etc. as it will contaminate/corrode things), shake it off & put it somewhere warm to dry. As long as it's clean & dry it should work fine afterwards.
Re. the key that came off, they push together, you just need to line the scissor clip type bit up with the bits on the bottom of the key - should be obvious when you look. Can take a bit of doing to get things pushed together (use something like watchmaker screwdrivers to hold things in place) but is certainly possible.

I knocked over a pint of water once pssed up I managed to turn it upside down and turned it off, took it apart next day and ordered a new keyboard off Ebay for £25, easy to fit and now works fine

Did you leave the battery in whilst i was wet? If so it's probably fucked.
For future reference in case anybody else has this happe:
Turn off,
Remove battery,
Remove HDD
Remove optical drive if possible,
Remove service covers and remove memory - and cpu if possible,
Wash well,
Airing cupboard for a few days,
Hair dryer on high speed, low heat,
Job jobbed.
The reason for removing those components is pins/sockets which will hold water. That and HDD's have vent holes and filters which you want to keep water out of....

Did the same thing with my laptop. Got a cheap USB keyboard from pc world and it works for about five minutes then goes into some strange mode as if each different key on the keyboard is a different short cut for random things? Any one have any idea on what the problem
With that could be? Only had it a week before I spilt coffee on it aswell!!
