Does anybody know of any engine building courses?

I've got a full time job so it would have to be an adult learning class or something.

I'm pretty handy at all things car related apart from welding and engine building. I appriciate it's a fine art but I could buy some scrp ngines to practice on.

look at the open uni course's mate there pretty good ive been thinking about doing one myself, although i have a wide range of knowledge about alot of cars i still cant get a job involved with cars cause i dont have a degree open uni course's will give you qualifications in your own time and you do it from home

I'd prefer to get hands on experience though. Almost like a motorsport college course where I can get my hands dirty rather than get a qualification. I'm not fussed with the qualification, would just love to learn how to dismantle and re-build an engine for fun in the hope I'd do a project car in the next few years!

I suppose I could ask at garages as I have pretty good holidays being a teacher?

The motorport course im doing at the moment, isnt very hands on im affraid, yeah we do welding once a week. Starting suspension soon then gearboxs and transmissions, apparently the engine part of the course is being taken out of my sylabus i mean how stupid, doing a motorsport engineering course and you dont even get to do engine work

There's welding courses everywhere, can't seem to find any engine building ones apart from the OU which zetcherb mentioned!

Also, for anybody wanting to do one of these course that live near oxford, the OCVC campus in bicester does an evening course from 6 till 9 and its like Ł390 :/

 

i am sure i read in classic or retroford jem engines run or are considering running such a thing, they are very well known for top pinto and hot rod engines. only prob for most is location..falkirk in scotland.

 

Is that the same JEM as in John Edwards Motorsport that built the monster revving YB and the motor for the Fensport celica? If it is I'd be interested, talk about learning from the best! Any links??

I don't think anywhere does engine building courses now and its a shame. Have to get in with an engine builder really and hope they're willing to show you what they have learnt.

 

no not jems but if they did it would be popular.......i meant jem engines in falkirk...more well known in the mk2 escort and stock car scene.
