It's hardly news, not that I agree with it.
But tbf, so long as its completely rounded blunt it can't do any more damage than a sharp pencil, which any school child is allowed to carry.

What have sikhs got to do with these "poppy burning scumbags" ???
They've been doing this for years and how many incidents can anyone recall of any stabbings with the use of the one that they wear?

I agree totally on the peacefulness of the entire Sikh religion in general, cant think of ANY bad press they have ever really had that looks even vaguely justified and there is no such thing over here as "sikh extremists" that im aware of.
BUT, it still shouldnt be that rules of a religion overrule something as important as rules of the school for safety, I dont think they should be allowed them in school classrooms, especially given that when they are in gym class they have to leave them in their locker room and one of the other kids who isnt as trustworthy could easily use it to stab someone.
People can believe in whatever make believe stories they want, but I dont feel that we as a society need to allow star wars book fans to carry replica light sabres in the classroom or sikh book fans to carry replica knives.

Totally agree with ginge.
There has been no attacks reported by use of the kirpan whereas some crackhead is Cunt more likely to use a knife.

I have every respect for peoples religion / beliefs, but no way should we allow kids to carry these into schools. We have a big enough problem as it is with regards to knife crime and we dont need these to add to the problem.
Like Chip said above really, it only takes one of these knives to fall into the wrong hands and there could be a disaster. I know schools / work places try and and bend over backwards to facilitate religions but something such as this is not acceptable. Safety of the kids is paramount over anything.

Some right ignorant inbred thick counts on here it's actually well funny.
Also find it quite ironic that it was posted by kam who is muslim, given the recent hijab wearing thread - there were some classic dumb ass comments on That thread too.
My mum has been wearing a kirpan for years and years - she even wears it to work and no o e bats an eyelid
It's probably more the case that Sikhs are more disciplined than the rest of the chavs at school or those on this thread and thus hav never had to use the kirpan as a weapon - give that option to some other kid on here and they will be off robbing & stabbing people

Ran, as per my reply above, Im sure that the vast majority of sikh kids are extremely respectful, but that doesnt stop some other kid picking up their kirpan in the locker room and stabbing someone with it.
School is not the place for it, wear your fancy dress costumes in your own time not while in a classroom.

I see your point chip, but this is no different to Muslim women being allowed to cover thier face - although the kirpan is actually part of the Sikh relion whereas the hijab isn't.
If Muslim women are allowed to wear hijabs (which are not actually part of their religion) then I don't see the problem with Sikhs wearing the kirpan which is part of the religion.
Agreed school is not the place for it unless u are in a Sikh school as it only takes some dumb kid (ie Callumarshall) to take the kirpan and stab someone

Younger kids don't really wear them wiily nilly either and most now have started to go to Sikh schools. It'd only become an issue now because people have "discovered" that they are worn, yet in the hundred or so years that Sikhs have been here in the rest of the world rather than mainly living in the Punjab, I can only think of one instance where you could say a cerimonial kirpan was used, and that was by a 60 year old who was getting mugged by some hoodie outside southall temple, he ran inside and got a sword and said te immortal line " THIS is a knife!" and then the police came along and nabbed the crook

Wearing a plastic ome defines the point of having the kirpan.. Sikhs go by the rule.. If you draw your kirpan in violence you have to shed blood.. If its your own or someone elses.. So as ran said obviously there not a big threat as you domt hear about the stabbings.. And sikhs would wear it regardless

It's worn underneath your vest so the only time it would ever be out in the open would be when they were going to get changed in the gym. And seeing as the law allows them to be worn up to a foot long and seeing as we should really be carrying big fuck off swords, I think it's not really an issue.

The rules need to be no knives in school and anyone who doesnt like that shouldnt be going to school in this country IMHO
