Hi there + Help needed with my 3 door.
Hi there, I have just joined your forum after buying my first Cosworth.
However, it has definately seen better days! I bought it from the police auctions, completely smashed to bits down one side, and the shell is a total write off.
Its a 1987 D registration and is completely original and I want to try and get it back to how it was. Unfortunately its HPi registered as an insurance total loss CAT B, not allowed back ont he road. However, even though its been sat around for 2 years, I managed to get it to cough back into life on the weekend, and everything in the car seems to work. It was cheap enough, so although it won't say cosworth on the logbook, I don't mind as it will have all completely genuine parts.
Basically main question is, where, can I get a new shell from. I beleive they did the 3 door sierra from A to D reg as far as I'm aware, and from information I have read up on, its the same car. underneath as my 3 door.. Also the XR4 is identical, bar the rear pillars (I could cut these out, bodywork is not a problem I work for a big bodyshop)
so the main question is, is the Xr4 the same or do i definately have to use the 3 door shell. will the running gear fit in the Xr4 shell? sorry for all the questions any help would be much appreciated.

Hi mate, i'd immagine the XR4 shell to be pretty much the same, as both RWD so dont see ford making one different sizes so i would of said so! oh and Welcome any info on these police auctions?

Thanks for all the advice, I do need a sheel with ID, I would love another cosworth obviously but that is highly improbable!!
I paid Ł600 for my car from north birmingham car salvage, A fiend of friend let me know about it.
I have already sourced the skirts that are damaged, (through a friend) but unfortunately, I am lacking a shell!!! I was going look at getting it done, until I HPI'ed it, and found out how bad it is. The police (who were in possession) of it, even refused to give the logbook, until the car was repaired and VIC'ed. It will always have a history and a new shell is alot easier. It will still retain the cosworth parts that matter, just won't say the right thing on the logbook
annoyingly one wheel is smasshed, so I'm on the look out for one, and the bottom arm is bent on the front. Police have had it in storage for 2 years, god knows why it suddenly reappeared!

Hi again don't have a digital camera, i'm not that advanced with a computer yet!
It looks a little like the white 3 door above but very bent down the drivers side and very dusty and dirty!!
I am now well on the lookout for a shell, so as soon as I get that I will beg borrow and steal a camera and do some pictures of it.

you cannot just cut the pillars out the rear of an xr4i shell, the windows won't fit....
you will need to change the rear qtrs complete
better off finding a genuine 3dr shell matey!!!!!

And apart from the rear window being the wrong shape and size, a new 4i shell is even harder to find than a new 3 door (I know because it took years to find mine!!!)
