So say it's L6, you'd have to sell it, then have £80 to start you off on either buying L8 etc etc, or £80 towards aftermarket...

or if you had an l6/l8 and wanted wasted spark, anti lag and launch control, it would be cheaper to go aftermarket

Lets put this one to bed. The options out there are wild so you have to look at things from the ground up...
Most the cosworths out there are on L8 or P8 so...

Lets look at tuning a 1992> L8 Cosworth.
Stage 1 chip with closed loop £99
Wasted spark driver £140
You now have a closed loop and wasted spark equipped L8 ECU with safe calibration.
Can you change it to aftermarket and get it mapped for under £239?
(If the L8 is to run greens, add £141)

Lets also look at tuning a 1992> P8 Escort Cosworth.
Stage 1 chip with closed loop and wasted spark £99
You now have a closed loop and wasted spark equipped P8 ECU with safe calibration.
Can you change it to aftermarket and get it mapped for under £99?
(If the P8 is to run greens add £41)

Older L8 prices change depending on the cars spec of course, but this is a good price basis for a guy with his first cosworth.

To add ALS and LC to the above examples is currently £450 but the Xmas sale will see significant savings.

What people are saying, is if you: start with an L1 or L6 ECU, sell that, and start from there, add it all up, what would it then come to?

You've not mentioned loom changes in the above either?

you dont need loom changes as the lambda connector is already built into looms from the past looms ive used, only add on would be if you went coil pack

What Looms? The L8 and P8 looms dont need any changes for those mods that aftermarket wouldnt, in fact they require less as both have the Lambda power / ground and signal feed already wired as standard.
Thats why I have kept it simple... any other extras you need for the L8/P8 you would usually also need for the aftermarket...

Ok so say you sell L6 for £80, buy an L8 for £250, that is another £170 added onto the cost!

I meant twin amp leads etc?

I've got l8 with ALS/lc wasted spark and I will get closed loop added soon.
It might have cost me a few quid but it was all easy work where I could do it all at home myself and do it over time, bit by bit so it didn't cost mr a full £1500 in 1 go like a vipec would have, more for others.
Eventually I will go aftermarket but as a stop gap the l8 with the toys is a good investment.

Stu, with that 1992 example it is cheap and the xmas sale will make it better value too so good work

what about if the car in question is 2wd and L1 or L6 equipped as James has mentioned?

its swings and roundabouts lol each to there own it all realy depends on what your tunner likes to work with if u have some that builds and maps your car! as some of them like to work with what they no best and can get the results they need out of! Then on the othere hand if others like to mod what they aready have fair play if its going to do what they need
