VW Sharan Problem
The wifes bus (Sharan 1.9 TD) keeps having the turbo cut out
If you turn the ignition off then back on the turbo kicks in again, but sometimes it just keeps dropping out all the time.
Also sometimes its perfect.
Anybody got any ideas ?
I have swapped the air flow meter and boost solenoid with a mates but its still the same

Sounds like its going into limp mode, and needs the ecu read. It might bring up an error code 17965 Positive deviation - relating to boost. This is common, and used to happen on my passat, and is caused when the soot builds up in the turbo and causes the parts inside the turbo (VNT) that direct the flow in, or around the turbine to stick, causing too much boost created, and the ECU to panic.
You can buy basic copies of VAGCOM cheaply off ebay that will enable you to read the faults but no more...

As above, it could be sticking flaps in the turbo but another possibility is a split or collapsing vacuum hose. The VAG diesels I have found in the past are very sensitive to any sort of split in a hose or when they come off.
A common thing that used to happen was the hose connection on the vacuum damper (a spherical shaped thingy) at the front of the engine used to break and cause poor response and lack of power like the turbo wasn't working. I've replaced a few of those in the past.
Check every little pipe you can see carefully, some of them are a little tricky to get to but are worth checking!

Done one the other day , at the bottom of the fuel pump there is 2 small wires in a shroud this is for the enritchment when it comes onto boost, this had been rubbin on the fuel pump bracket and they had broke.. Its a bit fiddly but i soldered them back together and i got the boost back again.

yep, i had a vacuum hose come off on my vw transporter 2.5tdi, was quite worrying flying down a hill towards the back of a car at the traffic lights with no servo assisted brakes!
