Default Out the army soon

Hello all,
I'm a newbie to this site so I'll start by saying hi to everyone.
Main reason I'm here is for advice.
I'm out the army november next year, not through choice I've reached the end of my 22 years service.
I stumbled on this site by accident whilst trying to dig out info on domestic/commercial gas engineer training. There was a thread on here about 'plumber vs electrician' but I can't find it now. The guy giving advice amongst others was 'focusv8'.
I'm a bit torn between refrigeration/air con training or the domestic/commercial industry. I've done loads of digging for ref/AC but not sure about gas side of things.
Any advice about courses or providers, essential quals to have etc about the gas or air con industry will be greatly received.
regards
Daz

Another REME punter (Ex Armourer..me)

I left in 2007 like you after 22 years and first thing you have to do is get into the mindset of F*** the army now as in 12 months time they won't give a dam about you.
Oh yes you won't get nothing off REME bar a certificate saying that you served... Thanks

Anyhow enough of my rant

I take it you have been into see the Reset officer and applied to go down to Herford to attened the Career Tran wksp
Also see what you can attend

I went on down to aldershot fm Germany to do the courses in the security side Access control CCTV Intruderalarms etcetc
Also you need to start networking in the area you are going to live but as you are REME you don't need telling this stuff

I spent 6 months being a stay at home Dad then got bored and started applying for jobs. Remember this was 2007-2008 at the height of the bust and I did get interviews but lack of experience was the downside

Luckly for me my present and only employer has got a Forces mentality and out the 4 Engineers 3 are ex forces

Good luck

Do as many resettlement courses as you can. Use up ALL the money you can get. Remember also the enhanced learning credit scheme as well!

As said, network now if you can and it makes your life sooo much easier if your potential employers are "forces aware" as in a lot of areas they wont have a clue and wont be interested.

You need to convert your service skills and experience into civilian terminology so when you write CV's etc then people understand the relevance of your skills.
