Advice Needed On My Car Ad...
I've had my VW Golf up for sale for a while now on here, Golf GTi, ED38, Pistonheads, Gumtree, Auto Trader and the dreaded eBay..... Other than the usual eBay time wasters i've had very little interest
Now, i appreciate its a 'little' over priced BUT i'm allowing for the usual haggling and leeway on the tax and mot situation, also the fact that its slightly modified and a limited edition car.
I'm open to feedback on where i'm going wrong... Is it the ad itself or the price or what? I just don't know!

i know the feeling very well; i would normally say the reason why cars dont sell is because they are overpriced or shit - but i've got a tidy T reg 156 alfa romeo 1.8 twin spark for sale at the moment for Ł590 with an mot and i havent had 1 phone call!!
it cant be over priced at Ł590 so it must be shit!
keep with it mate or reduce the price

Pricey cars just aren't selling at the mo mate. I understand what you are saying, but nearly Ł6k for a Golf, where you could get a similar condition Focus for about half that. Majority of people these days want value for money, not a bling looking car. Hang on to it for a while, a buyer will eventually come along, just have to wait for it!

I wouldnt spend Ł6k on a mk4 golf gti, personally, sure some people would but i don't see it as great value, despite the good spec yours is.
Big choice of motors available at 6k. Audi TT's, good e46 BMW's (330i's etc) Civic TypeR's, Evo 5/6(maybe?), Bi-Turbo S4, could probably get an anniversary edition golf for 7k too.

I'm in exactly the same boat, got a lovely Impreza that I can't drive and can't get my girlfriend insured on either. Its got shitloads of nice bits, and to be honest, I'm considering breaking the good bits off it as I should realise about 7k once I sell the Defis, 6spd conversion, clutch/fly, Prodrive bits, general performance bits and then sell the standard car for around 3k.
If I hang out for selling then I've resigned myself to having to do a swap deal and am looking for something nice thats insureable for a 22yr old girl, something like your car actually, I'd swap my Impreza for that... not sure why its not actually gone yet because it looks spot on IMO.
Cheers,
Grant

Look a nice motor, nice spec and nice condition, but think the images are a bit quickly taken.
Half stripped cars on your drive in the background? not a great impression, and that's a shame as your street looks pretty well to do.
It sounds daft but I look at the surroundings in a picture and if it is parked on a posh drive I think 'they are not short of a few quid and this car will have had some money spent'
Also, if the price is a bit rich, then it will put people off, cars aren't selling that well so if you want a sale, then make it appealing and then only move a little when they arrive. Again, it can be off putting to go and see an overpriced car expecting to get a good chunk off and then the seller wont budge because your there and most likely will just cough up, better to be a fair price and get a few quid off.
Good luck with the sale, looks a nice motor.

Nice car but your into r32 territory there price wise,I found a load of them on autotrader last night starting around Ł5995. Problem is mate, its getting so hard to get a loan at a decent interest rate right now and of course we all know that interest rates for mortgages can only really go up so finding Ł6k for a car is a lot of money that peeps maybe afraid to spend on.Lovely looking car though, miles look right as well.Have you tried more specialist VW sites as I suppose you may get a buyer looking for that particular model?

PassionFord Post Whore!!
tbh i was eyeing up the e34 more than the golf.
if i see a car i like and it's parked on double yellows outside a takeaway with tinted windows and big alloys i just won't bother.
works car park is good, or be really sly and park on a drive outside a friends garage. gives the impression it's kept in a garage/looked after etc.
as for the money side of things, tbh i think it's overpriced slightly knock Ł500 off if you can and see how it goes.
lovely looking car, but i personally wouldn't spend nearly 6k on one.

funnily enough, my one drives really well, but it does have a dodgy electric passenger window. Alfa's and electrical problems go hand in hand
cheers

I'm trying to sell my Escort cosworth and have reduced it by Ł3000 and still cant shift it, that market is crap for sellers, just stick with it or leave it till next year, or unfortunatly reduce it.

If it was a TDI it would have sold. I have been looking for a mk2 gti and searching on autotrader you can get a mk4 gti 20vt for 2-3k now which i was amazed at. Obviously wont be the nicest example but the tdi's command a lot more money than the gti's.
At least your selling your golf with wheels lol most of the mk2 are "i can do it for ŁŁŁŁ but you'll need to bring your own wheels". ye righto mate i'll spend 2k on a 20 year old car thats on bricks lol

have put my S2 on here, pistonheads, gumtree, xrtwo.com, fiestaturbo.com, oddkidd.com and finally the dreaded ebay and had very little interest, and not one viewer!
seems that things aint selling very well just now, didnt think mine was expensive for a clean, honest taxed and tested car but i'm not willing to drop price much more!
on a different note Billy, think i recognise your cab from the petrol station just after Ford Fair, was chattin to you in the queue, I was in the gold Escort Bonus
