Ntl use optical, the rest use copper (bt optical is out soon, as you said).

PS:Ive been with ntl/virgin for the past 11 years now and have to say theres no one better out there now, at one point NTL(virgin) had shite customer service, now a days they are a lot lot better and get things sorted ASAP.

No Pal, I think you'll find your wrong so please don't tell me my job.
If you have a line with any service provider (exceptNTL) the connection from the MDF (exchange) is a copper pair of wires owned and maintained by BT openreach.
If you have a Virgin line where they have there OWN network then it's an NTL line from YOUR house to THERE exchange (nothing to do with BT). If there is NO NTL Network then you can still use NTL as your service provider but this is over the BT network from the socket in your house to a BT exchange, at NO point does any NTL network go from a or your house into the street and connect to a BT network.

And OMG yes i do do this for a living..................
