Hit some motorway debris......
on Monday and ripped the tyre off the nearside wheel and ripped all the fuel lines off. Rang AA who said coz it was an accident and not a breakdown they would not recover my vehicle !! Ended up having to pay £158 to get it took home. I was behind the lorry when the bit of wood come off but it all happened so quickly I was unable to get a reg. The question is who can I claim off? I tried the motor insurance bureau who told me that because I was not injured I was unable to claim. I've tried the highways agency who have noted down the details and are gonna look at any CCTV (However they say its very unlikely they will be able to trace the lorry!). Anyone got any ideas?

I just missed a large bit of plastic that flew off a buggy that an estate car had tied to its roof rack on the M2 the other day, thought it was going to hit my windscreen, but luckily the wind took it over my van.
It all happens so quickly that your virtually unable to respond to it.
Unfortunately I think your going to have to put this one down to an experience, unless the traffic wombles come up trumps on the video.

As the accident happened after 14 February 2003, the MIB will consider a claim for material damage, criteria are that the plod are informed within 5 days, and the claim must be made/started within 9 months, this covers uninsured as well as untraced drivers, so put a claim, we each pay between £15-£30(current rates) into the mib from each law abiding motorists insurance.
A recent survey showed amazingly 10% of 18-34 year old drivers didn't know insurance was a legal obligation, they thought it was voluntary!!
900,000 under 30's drive without insurance
plod seizes 500 cars a DAY for no insurance

Tabetha, I wish I'd of known that sooner! Coming up the motorway back end of last year a bit of debris hit my bonnet, bounced up and took my windscreen out. I paid the insurance excess on the screen but there was no way I was gonna claim for the bonnet. It woulda been worth a try through the MIB.

Are you sure about this? I spoke to a woman at the MIB and she told me about the untraced vehicle cover but said I was unable to claim unless I had a injury as a result of the incident. Who amongst the police do I report it to? My local station? Headquarters or british transport police? If this is the case I've only got till Friday!!

Taken from the MIB website:
The Motor Insurers' Bureau is a fund of last resort and as such will consider claims for property damage and injury where compensation cannot be claimed from another source. The Bureau's obligation is to handle claims in accordance with the agreements between MIB and the Government. MIB is restricted to paying compensation in respect of liability for property damage or injury arising from an accident that has occurred either on a road or a public place in accordance with the Road Traffic Act 1988 and subsequent regulations. MIB is also the UK Green Card Bureau and can be contacted when the driver of foreign registered vehice is being held responsible for an accident which has occurred in the UK.

100% sure, MIB staff don't know their own rules, nothing new, same as plod don't know the data protection act, saying can't give you that info, data protection act, even though you/I have just cause so are entitled to it, I kicked up seriously big time a few months back when refused last time, so the data controller has written the rules out for them!!
