As the accident happened after 14 February 2003, the MIB will consider a claim for material damage, criteria are that the plod are informed within 5 days, and the claim must be made/started within 9 months, this covers uninsured as well as untraced drivers, so put a claim, we each pay between £15-£30(current rates) into the mib from each law abiding motorists insurance.
A recent survey showed amazingly 10% of 18-34 year old drivers didn't know insurance was a legal obligation, they thought it was voluntary!!

Are you sure about this? I spoke to a woman at the MIB and she told me about the untraced vehicle cover but said I was unable to claim unless I had a injury as a result of the incident. Who amongst the police do I report it to? My local station? Headquarters or british transport police? If this is the case I've only got till Friday!!
