Default Tonsillitis Advice

Been layed up in bed since monday

Doctors gave me penicillin but hasn't helped so far

Throat swollen and to be honest im in agony, have hardly slept for 3 nights and have only managed to drink a cold pint of chicken soup

ive tried shed load of paracetamol and iburofen no help, panadol no joy managed to track down some co-codamol 20/500's and taking them with nurofen and thats helping but been sick due to all tablets no doubt, ive stuck to the 4 hour rule and not taken more than i should have

How long this expected to last? anyone else suffered with this in their 30's?

Knocked me for 6 this like

I had it about a year ago and was laid up for a week. I was prescribed penicillin too, and it had no effect after about 5 days so I went back and he told me to double the dose. I was mucho better in a couple of days then. I found ice cream helped MASSIVELY!!

Try the Vicks antiseptic throat spray, you can direct the spray to the very back of your throat and it numbs the whole area rather than just your tounge like strepsils etc....

You're doing everything you can already. Keep taking co-codamol + ibuprofen (try and eat something before the ibuprofen-that might be what made you sick).
You could get a throat spray as mentioned. If youve got any soluble aspirin (300mg) dissolve in water and gargle with it. If you decide to swallow it (no jokes please!!!) then skip a dose of ibuprofen (co-codamol is fine, ibuprofen OR aspirin).
Hope its better soon

I never really ail anything and in 8 years of my working life i can count on one hand the days ive had off sick, but this knocked me right out, was off work for a week and half

i stuck to the 4 hour rule, 2 anadin extras and 1 ibuprofen, and as odd as it sounds drink plenty of hot tea it does help !

It used to wear off for around 1 hr or 2 and then come back, throat sweets like halls soothers/lockets do not help at all so dont bother wasting cash on them

get well soon, and enjoy hours of mind numbing daytime television

Suffered with tonsilitis about 4 times a year, really badly. So had them taken out 2 years ago, best thing I ever did....even if I was 24 years old at the time (not great when you're older). Get them taken out, you don't need them anyway, they're only there to battle against bacteria when you're a child to the point your organs develop and take over.
