Car Auctions Question (Manheim)
Just a quick one can you buy from auctions without being a trader these days i know you used to be able to but not sure now, ive been before with my old boss but was in the trade then,
Need to make a bit of cash and struggling to find a job atm so thought i'd have a bash at sellin a couple of cars just to stay afloat,
cheers for the help

you first need to register yourself as a bidder with them which involves filling out a form and giving them some id also you have to part with £200 to be given a bidding number which is refundable if you dont bid on anything

good luck buying from auction.cars seem to be more money there than out on the street at the mo.and the amount of our foreign friends(and all their fuckin family!!) who are at my local auctions trying to buy everything is unreal...
car sales is fucked at mo-everyone is trying to do it to make ends meet.every main road near me has cars for sale parked along the roadside.

Ask before hand how much indemnities are for you [they're on a sliding scale depending on the sale price] as they can be very steep for private buyers.
If the car has a "manheim assured" page in the window, you'll pay a bit more. Not sure how much it is for private buyers but probably around £40?
If you pay by credit card you'll have to pay a percentage on top and in some manheim centres, you pay a percentage on top for paying in cash as well. I can't remember off the top of my head but it's something like 2% of the sale price.
Also, if you're not registered as a trader with them, you won't get the registration document. They'll fill it out and send it off to the DVLA and all you'll get is the green slip.
I use Bristol quite a lot and obviously don't queue up with the private plebs so can't speak for that auction centre. But it's DEFINITELY the case in Wimbledon [where they're lacking in space and everyone pays in the same place] that you have to get a bidding number and leave a deposit as a private buyer. It is refundable if you don't buy anything.
To the OP, which Manheim is closest to you? I'm sometimes at Northampton or Leicester [which are probably closest to your location] so if you let me know when you're going, drop me a PM and you can buy me a cup of tea.
As said above though for various reasons, the prices at open auctions are getting to be a bit of a joke.

I like Leominster myself, cheap as fuck but again just starting to get a lot of interest from our foreign friends!!no need to pay any deposit there and the indemnities are cheap as fuck.oh and paddy, leave us welsh alone,if you've ever been to Swansea auctions you'll know why we go over the border, think it's a £500 deposit there now and I reckon it's cheaper to buy the cars direct from the dealers!!!!!
