Angry injectors recoded

hi all,

quick question re: recoding injectors! I have had them recoded following a limp home episode and the car ran fine. took it out today and low and behold power dropped and limped home, flashing coil light etc. Does this mean injectors are goosed? i had diag of P2336(i think) which prompted me to get injectors recoded and as I say, the car ran fine for a few days, i have read somewhere that you have to run the car for 5 miles when fitted , is this true and could this be the case of he latest limp home mode/

any thoughts gratefully accepted

steve

A recode is very seldom a fix, it just delays the inevitable. P2336 would suggest that injector number 1 needs replacing.

You may be lucky and get away with one, but it's very common for them to go 'together', so you could fix that and find that number 3 goes in a couple of weeks, and so on.

Tell me about it! My Mondeo is the newest, lowest mileage car I've ever owned, and is by far the most unreliable, and costly to fix.

Ive just sent my four away for rebuilding. Had them ultra sonically cleaned but the fault remained. Before hand, i've replaced the fuel filter, fuel metering valve, fuel temperature switch, fuel pressure regulator and had the injectors cleaned. The rebuild should cure the fault, BUT, if it doesn't, the only thing left is the high pressure pump so fingers crossed LOL

Sonic cleaning's a bit pointless on common rail injectors, (from what I've been told anyhow). Did you send them to a Delphi dealer this time?

afraid i'd say new injectors mate.......

I've got a 2006 st tdci, 2.2. Started lumpy cold start and rough idle at only 37k, was still under warranty from buying it...Took it back to the dealers and they replaced them straight away, and also said it was piontless to consider recoding.
Car runs perfectly and pulls a freight train again.....

Sorry mate!!!!!!

coding is usually needed when new/different injectors are installed, i wouldnt trust the ones off ebay as they most probably will be second hand units who knows how long they will last. I used to be able to get hold off brand new injectors for 20quids each, sadly no longer

new yes iirc around 200each, not sure if you can service them, also there are two types of injectors both look the same but have different sized injectors on them, and both are found on mondeos so make sure you match up the part number

if the car is switched off and back on does the fault disappear???

does it then drive ok for a while???

might be worth cleanign ur egr valve, as this has the same symptoms of your fault!?

better still blank the bastard valve off.

It's very unlikely that the EGR on a 2002 TDCi would cause the EML light to come on, as they're not 'electrical' like the later EGRs.

I blanked the egr valve off as recommended by some of the guys on the forum. I have since unblanked it as there was a whistling / screaming noise coming from engine when accelerating. sounded awful

Not necessarily. It's also a common symptom of a pump issue, but it normally comes with the codes P0251 and P1211.

If blanking it didn't fix the fault, replacing it won't either!

Yeah, mine's the same, no codes.

Make sure you fill the new filter with diesel when you refit, otherwise you'll have a hell of a job starting it!

They were done at a delphi dealer / diesel injection specialist local to me, according to them, one was really blocked before cleaning and the spray was more of a dribble, Had them cleaned and made no difference.
Had a call from the bloke who's rebuilt my injectors yesterday saying that the control valves were all worn, two badly, the other two not so bad! Should have them before one o'clock today so will fit them later and take it for a test drive.
If anyone wants he's number pm me, done me a very good price and 3 day turnaround!

someone mentioned getting some diesel additive because of water content in the diesel and it helps shift it, increasing perfomance. is this right and does anyone know what it is?

cheers

Had loads of aggro with injectors, even though car had had Ł1800 worth of pump and injectors just before I bought it and car's only done 78K miles. Developed v.bad diesel knock and smoking on start-up a month later. Delphi tested the injectors and said they were fine, yet swapping two cured the knock and reduced the smoke!! Cost me Ł600, and it's still not quite right now.

Plus I've got a serious boost leak and can't find it, despite stripping the car and swapping just about everything... no fault codes, and non of the usual suspects are at fault. Plus I've got a hub nut that works its way loose no matter what we do, and takes out wheel bearings which are Ł60 a pop. I'm on my third bearing, and 5th hubnut. Got an outer CV to swap in next, so fingers crossed for that.

Give it a go. There's a lot of hype about additives, and lots of different ones to choose between. Just don't expect it to be a magic fix for your car!

Still injectors. Does it go into limp if you're a bit heavy footed, or at random? Injector/pump issues tend to go into limp if you accelerate firmly. Or does it still do it if you're really gentle with it? Worst case scenario is that it 'could' be the pump.

Could be time to trade it in, or punt it through an auction!

Not on a 2002 TDCi, they have 'mechanical' actuators, and don't log any fault codes.
