Needs to be done, the UK is in the shit and only some serious action will turn that around.
Still, lets hope the cuts to welfare will encourage some of those people who chose not to work (because their benefits pay better), to get back into work when jobs do start to become available in the future.
As Maggie said; "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money".

Taxes will increase, spending will go down.
That was always going to happen, whoever won the election. No doubt the Labour camp on here will tell us all how awful the Tories are, and how we're going back to the 80s and all the usual stuff.
People had it way too good for way too long, and it's caught up with them at last. We might not like it, but that's the facts. We won't get rid of the defecit without some pain.
It's about time that middle-income Britain woke up to the fact that it isn't normality for them to all have a brand new car every three years, a 50" plasma TV, a holiday abroad every year and still claim a load of tax credits and benefit.

What they'll be announcing needs to be done at some point. All parties (including Labour) are in agreement about that. They only thing they can't agree on is when. Very difficult to pass judgement on, because economics isn't an exact science, it's all about doing what you think is best. No one knows exactly the best way to get out of this mess for sure - if it's even possible in reality - they're just giving their opinion on it.
So anal raping now or later, it really makes no difference.

Simple; because for the majority of the Labour government, public spending went up and up and up, borrowing was cheap so people bought loads of shiney things on hire purchase, house prices went up and up, banks lent loads of money and gambled with it, and then, surprise suprise, it all went tits up.
Many people had a very good ten years or so, and now it's time to settle the tab.

Can someone explain this to me (not a piss take, actual question)...
Regarding the national dept, why are the government in such a rush to pay it back and put the public under greater financial strain? When other countrys have had to pay back dept (like Iceland) they've just said no, they cant afford it and will do it later when it suits them?
Again, not trying to be funny, genuine question... thanks.

its all about how we look and our credit rating as a country, bit like our own credit file, which in turn affects the stirling rate etc etc all a knock on effect

I have no issue in paying in to get the country back on it's feet BUT I do have an issue of the rich giving to the poor.
Far to many lazy foookers who don't want to work and are on the take take take, those and the people who spent way be on their means in greed and now are up shit street.
I aint a rich man but i do ok and it properly pisses me off that the harder I work the more i have to fund those who can't be bothered.
Get it fair, those in genuine need get what they need, those lazy tramps on the scrounge, get to fuck.

I thought the budget was actually ok... yes the cuts will as usual effect construction BUT I am quietly confident we'll be ok.
I came home to find my parents who largerly dont have a clue on these things or an opinion actually offered one - they said they were quite please with it and suprised the cuts weren't a lot worse.
Very suprising the the usual targets weren't battered.
Personally on reflection I think they played it up as being the worst thing since sliced bread only to produce something half resonable.

i am so far very impressed with the way things are being run so far, i like the base income rate being raised, yes we have a 20% vat but i didnt notice a difference when it went down then back up anyway, asa above things will be hard till the country sorts itself out

It went down but it meant sellers made more, to adjust billing on tills displays etc would cost so ppl put up the price pre vat....
Now its going to cost sellers more, So they WILL put prices up to compensate

It's not too bad considering it was meant to be all doom and gloom. Only thing I'm pissed off about is they gone back on their pledge to stabilise fuel prices, but then we all know the motorist is the easiest to get money out of after smokers and drinkers. Like other people said, we have a huge credit bill, now it's time to pay up. I only hope they do a proper reform on the social system and get the lazy bastards back to work. Labour encouraged a welfare state, supported by the working people. Spongers took the piss, now there's no money left. Cheers Labour

just watching the news and they speak to Mr Mrs Benefits
4 kids, the mum has never worked and the dad is perfectly able bodied but again, hasn't got a job and they are moaning with the best line being...
'It's hard, i got me debt management councelling for me debt and now i gota manage on less, and (pointing to the kid) it's them wots guna sufa'
With their mate also on benefits saying ' i woz guna get qualification and trainin in four years when my little girl is 7 cause i can't get a job cause i aint get no qualifications'
Where do they think their money comes from? Try working all week slogging your knackers off knowing a big chunk is going to scum like them!! Thats fookin hard, not sitting on your fat arse with 10 kids and a house full of bright house gear deciding if you can squeeze another ciggy in before you rustlers bugger is done.

Child tax credits, sure start etc etc...all things the lower end of the scale needs for a decent qaulity of life. The richer dont need that so it doesnt affect them. The VAT increase hurts low income workers too, it wont hurt high end ones in normal day life as they have enough money to not worry about it!

Mike Rainbum said steve just uses a bit of spit and hopes youve numbed up/got used to the pain by the time it dries up
I disagree. Most of the child tax and benefit system cuts affect those in the upper working/lower middle class so hardly "poor people" as you say but those who are above the breadline. the poorest are still adequately protected.
child tax credit, come on now!! the threshold is Ł40k!! your trying to tell me a family earning 40k is poor??? get a grip. Low income families will get MORE.
The sure start cut to first child only is sensible. People shouldnt be having children if they cant afford to pay for them. Surely part of SENSIBLE family planning is considering finances???
lone parents being made to work when kids go to school is a great idea!! stops the dole scrounging thick teens choosing teen pregnancy and handouts as a livestyle instead of working. Sure it will need managing to ensure the kids dont suffer but how many of such parents who would make the kids suffer if they lost benefits actually use their benefit money on the kids in the first place?? so on balance is any harm done by the governments plans?? no. Just shifts responsibility to where it rightly lies, in the parents hands!!
Although i am pleased to see the review of housing benefit rules and the review of job seekers and disability meaning reductions for those long term unemployed deemed to be capable of work. That way the genuine folk get paid, and the lazy scum get less.
The VAT increase is fuck all in the big scheme of things.
remember also the increase in personal tax allowance of Ł1k!!!
its very good news that there will be no 25% cut in health funding!!
as said, partly due to our credit status as a country, also partly due to the debt size and interest payments. Even assuming we stop borrowing, the debt will still increase at a massive rate due to interest on it. Hence it makes sense to pay it off as quickly as possible...
just like if you got a credit card maxed out, youd be better off paying it off quick rather than spreading it over several years!! youd pay less interest.

And they are going to rape the disabled, brilliant, what a bunch of arseholes.
I thought it was the fatcat civil servants who were going to get their massive pensions cut? But no, it's easier to pick on the disabled and people without jobs, fucking incredible.

Wtf, no theyre not, they're raping those pretending to be disabled and IMO quite right! Too many scroungers taking advantage of one of the most poorly implemented systems ever seen!

The budget talked the most sense I have heard from a politicians mouth in a very very long time. I can't recall the last time I agreed with the government at all.
About time the bull was grabbed by the horns and something was done imho. I had to laugh at all the labour back benchers booing and chanting at the coalition who are clearing up their shit!

I know of someone who hasn't worked for 18yrs, claims to have back problems so cant work and claims for it. Yet this is the same bloke who can build a shed, put up a trampoline, dig over his garden, puts up shelves and furniture. Its people like him its going to hit, the piss takers, and rightly so.
