Default have a problem with my engine 'cc'

right been after for a manual for a few weeks now. the car is a mk4 escort. emailed haynes, told me that it cant be a 1097cc engine if it a 1987. Searched the net and it appears that the 1097cc engine wa son the mk1 and 2.

how can this be? maybe it is listed like that on the logbook for tax reasons??

Kent OHV as found in mk3 escorts in 1.1, and mk1 and 2 fiesta's, later revamped slightly in 1300cc form to be called the HCS, high compression swirl.
1600 version can be found in mk1 XR2 fiesta as well.
Must admit I have not seen one in a mk4, in the uk.

We have a winner;
Valencia

The engine was revised to suit front wheel drive installation in 1976, coinciding with the launch of the Ford Fiesta. The ancillaries were repositioned and the cylinder head redesigned using flat-top pistons and the traditional combustion chamber in the head. This version of the Kent was known as the Valencia engine, after the Spanish production plant in which it was made. It was available in 1.0, 1.1 and 1.3 versions with the 1.3 having a 5 main bearing crank. It would later see service in the third and fourth generation Ford Escort. The cylinder heads were modified in 1986 for unleaded fuel and the cams changed for emissions reasons along with the addition of electronic ignition.

Are you after a manual for engine development or maintenance in general?

I've got the first edition of the 1980-1990 escort manual, I'll have a look what it says in there tomorrow.

I am after general maintenance, like what type of oil grades, how muh litres of oil does it use etc etc. It may sound silly but I like to have a manual for my car.

Going by what it says in the statement above I'd say no, it isn't necessary.

It shouldn't of harmed the engine, if anything it may have seemed a little quieter as the additives act as a lubricant.

It's looks very similar to the 1.1-1.3 though so I don't think you'd be going to far wrong by ordering a UK version.

no mate, but seeing Im doing a course in panel beating and spray, AND when i find an apprentiship, I should get the bodywork sorted first! Then when i have funds ill think about the engine! car needs whole front end, rear doors a bit of rust and rust on the tailgate!

Just painted the spare wheel well and rear panel!

thats why I stated that it needs a front end. the left mudguard is full of hardmetal! I bought it with a bump on the bonnet and right mudguard and slam panel, and was not repaired 100%. So me thinks a new front end is needed, will try and sort one out as cheap as possible.
