Default need help.possible burgler

The last few mornings I have gone to let my dog into the garden and the gate has been wide open.I know for a fact that it was shut last thing at night. Now I suspect only one thing. That is that someone is casing the joint and in fact last night i went to bed late (fell asleep on the settee)and the security light at the side of the house came on just before i nodded off but couldnt be bothered to get up.There is no security light at the back by the patio window. My problem is that I work away during the week and if i tell my other half of my suspicions she will go mental and refuse to sleep at home. What can I do?who can I tell?any ideas fellas? They have to walk past the rs to get to the garden as well.

put a security light on the back patio and maybe bolt the gate at the bottom so no one can reach over and un do it?

has your dog not noticed or heard anything. was round gf's last night when her dog started going mad at something in the garden. probably just a fox but the light never came on so was quite a way away. and hes never that bothered by foxes etc

anyway id suggest changing the locks or someting on your gate or something silly like a sign saying fuck off.

anything to let them know that you know their about

just think he might be after your car keys!

My dog is 15 yrs old now and a lot deaf. The gate is only waist high.dunno if i should let the cops know,if they can be bothered.Tryin to put up a security light now without her indoors gettin suspicious.Dunno if i should tell her coz she will panic. On the plus side she will lock the additional patio locks every night. She can be a bit forgetful sometimes.

I would tell her pal, god forbid anything happened with you away, you would never get over the mental fact that you could have warned her to be vigilant..

On the other issue, i personally would wait up with a couple of pals, as soon as you hear any noises take a pic with a camera with a damn good flash, that will:

A) Get a pic in case you dont catch em.
B) Blind that twats so they struggle to escape without tripping up.

Then give chase and give them a real kicking they wont want repeated..

The cops wont be interested, they will be out chasing down innocent motorists instead of getting the fucking thiefs and mugs who walk the streets.

What i would do is get extra security lights for the future, but in the mean time i would take the night off work and like Stu said, sit up with a few mates with the lights off ( be sure none of your mates likes to take it up the poop cutter or they could get a bit of touchy feely going in the dark ) and wait for the fucker to come back.

You might want to purchase some fox traps or something, anything that will make him not come back again. Alternatively, you could try and capture the thieving bastard and tie him up to a lamp post with a sign saying something like "i am a house breaking, thieving scum bag"...then phone the cops on him, but make sure you display him for a while and let neighbors and potential victims of house breaking see him, another idea could be to get a trialer and parade him around the streets for a bit...

I dont know, those might be a bit childish but, the fuck witt would deserve it.

i agree you should tel ya missus, but say something like "have you noticed the gates been open in the morning?" and see what she says, so you're not actually saying "someones trYing to burgle us rah rah rah " lol then put the security light up, she'll feel safer too. and put a sign up "beware of dog" (pic of rottweiler)

they'll notice you've noticed somethings up, and hopefully that'll be enough to scare them off. if not. camp in ya car and then GET THE FOOKERS

I would move the car as that would seem to be the biggest target to me.
Would it not be possible to get a garage or put it in a mates garage for a while.

If the lights don't go on and the gate is always closed in the morning then you know what they are after.

I would seriously consider moving the car

Put LOADS of grease on the gate latch, if they are opening it then they will know that you know if you know what i mean

Also get a spring for the gate so that it slams shut if you let go of it?

Seriously need a bolt lock on it pal. Not at the bottom tho, as then you have a fair bit of leverage ot rip it open. I would put it in the middle (i'm guesing you have standard sized gate - ala 6-7foot?) and make sure there is no way to get your hand through the gate to get at the bolt.

Least then the gate is more secure (might even put one at the bottom aswell to be safe - they only a fiver or less from B+Q....

With regard to the light, get it done, dispite what your missus says - afterall it's gonna be an aid to her anyway. Get a new style PIR for it and it's less sensitive to things like cats, fozes etc.

Yeah i agree with that, buy a cctv kit, i have one, i sit in bed sometimes watching whats going on outside, besides a camera with a little red flashing light sticking on the front/rear of the house would deter most people.

Its like a car alarm, opportunist thief is going to break into the car with no flashing red lights as opposed to the one next to it belled up to the eyeballs.

Bolt in the centre of the gate (keeps the gate solid and most rigid). Smear wax oil over the top of the gate. If the put their hands on it with any luck they will leave some nice finger prints behind.

Just a thought mate but if you have a video camera set it up at the window over the garden and connect it straight to the VCR. This will give you up to 8 hours recording the you can have your fears confirmed or quashed. You may not get any great clarity but it may give an idea as to what they are up to

Security lights don't do sod all anymore, coz they usually come in with hoods up so you couldn't even tell who it was in broad daylight, someone broke into my cousins house just before crimbo in broad daylight at 2pm.

Took brand new B&O plasma TV and surround cinema system, hi-fi, kids crimbo presents the lot, and no one saw a thing.... its unbelieveable.....

Just make sure everythings secure and move the car to a secure place, or disconnect the dizzy or leads or summat daft like that, so in case they do get in they can't drive it anywhere.... thats what I do when I leave my car in a dodgy area.

I agree with the sign idea though, think that might work, try it mate!!!

Other wise introduce them to the

Wire a switch to the gate, and put a buzzer in the house/bedroom, that way if the gate is opened the buzzer will sound and you can catch them in the act.

we used to have the same problem mate the back garden gate would be shut on a night but open on a morning so we started shutting the big gates on the drive aswell and sure enough they were open next day... turned out it was a lad from our street climbing over the back fence on to the garage roof dropping down and going home ( shortcut from the pubs) twat soon put him right though.. not saying this is your problem but ya never know..

Not bad ideas..but you're getting the wrong pic about the drive. You have the drive down the side of the house & where the car lives. Then behind that there is the gate..but it's only small. There are no front gates so it ain't the postie neither.

Where've you put this new light that's gonna keep waking the missus up mate? Can't be that bright surely? Get Taff to camp in ya garden..that'll scare the fookers!

Buzzer and camera seem the best ideas at the minute. Let me know if there's anything i can do mate.
