I'm not a Peugeot man myself but one of my friends has a black S reg 306 gti 6 that he bought about 2 yrs ago, he paid £9500 from a main dealer I know their a lot cheaper than that, anyway it had full main hist & about 35k miles & he drives it like an old fart, the headgasket blew on it on the way back from TRAX 2004, so i suppose check for headgasket i do believe it is weak point.

I heard somewhere (think it might have been Jeremy Clarkson actually) that when they were new, they were the best handling FWD car you could buy on the market!!

Excellent handling, nice glob of useable power. Usual shonky French build quality, though not as bad as earlier Pugs.

the engine aint too bad its a good idea to change the timing belt every50k,servicing is a peice of piss, check the brakes for judder and ware, check wishbone bushes for cracking. if your gonna lower it id advise you get sumone that knows what they are doing to do the rear torsion bar, and the clutches are a bastard to do but other than that ther aint to bad

i had one i paid 8k it was me first car they are quite nippy 178bhp i fink it was, handling is spot on, they eat loads of front tyres, burn fuel, eat headgaskets, its ok when its on the road but half the time its in garage mite just b that i had a crap one but reliablility is shite so b careful, and they dnt hold vlaue at all! i only got 3 and a half! interior is bit shoddy evn tho it has leathers it aint gt that sporty feel 2 it, oh and the 306 xsi and DTirbo look exactly the same so nt made specifically 4 the gti badge

Ive got one for my every day car

Nice motor IMO, only thing os far to go wrong on her has been the exhaust so I swapped it for a stainless, pretty good in juice too, got 458 miles to a tank a while back

Overall good car, think the misses would like it

Oh and they are 167 BHP

http://306gti6.com/ is a good website, make sure you have the cam belt and all tensioners and water pump done when buying as these are prone to going

really surprised me at how quick it was! dunno if it was tuned or anything, but still, gets a big in my books

they might be good in the twisty stuff but straight line they are pretty crap...was in a 90' civic 1.6i vt 150 bhp version... caught up and over took it...2nd and 2rd gear...

however i would say they are quicker around bends...thats what they are really known for...

however if you really want fun.....those civics are awesome. i know this is a ford forum and i love my fords but my brother had one of those civics (were only made in 90-91 and are very rare) have the same engine as the crx vtecs (b16a1) rev up to 8000 rpm with ease and with an exhaust they push over 160 bhp with ease (even if its 140000 miles)....straight line they will eat most mildly tuned turbos that have supposedly 185 bhp and around the bends great grip....
