Exclamation Major logbook problem help needed.

Hey guys.
I got a friend of mine a vauxhall corsa a year ago.
The V5 logbook was lost but the owner had the green slip which he gave us.
He is a friend of the family so trusted him in what he said.
I taxed the car on the 2nd of April 2009 for 6 months, no problems.
Forgot about it until the tax was due again so we went to the local dvla office, filled out a tax form and a form for applying for a new V5.
It didnt cost anything as we had the green slip. DVLA processed it, issued us a tax disc and said the V5 would be in the post soon.

Fast forward another 6 months and a letter turns up today stating there was a destruction order on the vehicle
I rang DVLA Swansea up about it who say someone sent the V5 logbook to them on the 7th of July 2009 with the box ticked for the vehicle being scrapped!!!!
DVLA issued a destruction order and say theres nothing they can do the vehicle can not go back on the road.
The person we got the car from said he had lost the V5 so couldnt have sent it off scrapped even if he wanted to.

So heres the thing, DVLA let us tax the car in October for another 6 months so come they didnt saything then that the car had been scrapped???

Has anyone else had a similar thing happen to them?
Is there really nothing we can do or have we been fobbed off??

Thanks in advance for any advice

Is the vehicle you have a legitimate car, i.e. not a clone?

Not wanting to scare you but are you 100% sure it is the original vehicle?

Yeah the MOT details match the car details etc.
We did an online check it comes back as fine. The MOT details match the car and it doesnt mention a change in vehicle details such as vin numbers etc as the computer records everything at the time of test. If it was logged on with a different VIN it would show online as having done so, so we are presmuing it geniune.

Id ask the previous owner to ring the dvla stating that he lost the log book, and never sent it off with the box ticked to say its been scrapped. Or maybe get him to write a letter or declaration or something. Im sure theres something that can be done here if you speak to the right people. if you or the previous owner explain that neither of you sent them the log book, then surely they should just issue a new one to you.

If they say theres nothing that can be done, then what if someone steals your log book, then sends it off as scrapped? Is the car then useless, because thats what they seem to be saying. Strange.

Also, ask to see the log book that was sent in, or at least a copy of the signature. Then get a smaple signiture from both the new owner and the previous owner as proof it was neither of them that signed it.

Is it an old corsa?? one no one is likely to be ass'd about???

If you cant sort it I'd just buy another id and 're shell' it.

Speak to the dvla say the box was ticked might have been ticked by mistake ?

it happened to me about 10 years ago they were helpful and sorted it

Just ring the dvla stating that the box had been ticked by mistake, they will probably want you to book the car in for an inspection at one of there depots at most.

Well ive just spoke to DVLA about it.
They say they are "investigating" the destruction order and cant tell me much about it at this time.
The chap reckons it could have been something as simple as typing error at there office

Anyway it will take approximately 20 days from the 17th of March to decide who and why they fucked up and in the mean time the car cant re taxed until this done
