Default help with bilstein 909 coilovers

after some expert help please,

i bought a set of bilstein tarmac spec 909 front coilovers,

i fit them and the arch is about 2 inches above the wheel, even with the spring set to its lowest setting

to remove them i have to remove the hub as the shock has so much compression i cant just lever it down like normal?

i have a shorter set of springs with the shocks but i'm not sure if that would make any difference or not?

any help would be greatly appreciated

some pics of the shocks

cheers

Ron,

they do look long, shorter springs will reduce the ride height..

Is it the stanard ARB that prevents the hub drooping to a position where you can remove the strut...

They look like a Grp 'A' casing machined to take a Grp'N' hub,

What rating are they? they look very hard....

if you take the springs off, remove the nut from the under side and unscrew the mono tube then measure it, i'll tell you what you have, or, have a look under the spring cap at the top for a 909 number on the insert and i'll try from that, looks to me like you have gravel inserts and tall top caps.

what length springs have you on at the moment?

pretty much mate yes, as much as i lever the hub down the strut keeps going with it, if that makes sense? the spring rate do you mean? 300ibs, and the shorter set are 500ibs,

question is will i be able to use them without spending to much as i'm on a budget

i will strip them down tommorow and get the numbers off thank you, i put it together with the red springs on which i think are 12 inch? the 500ibs springs are 8inch but didnt want to use them as thought they would be too hard?

will these be any good for me for track or have i been buggered?

500lb is very hard, and I always look to use the longest spring I can to ensure the most suspension travel i need, if you dont need a lot (but dont forget the compression will be alot more than you can do by hand at 100mph ! )

on the orad you will need chewing gum with the 500's to stop your teeth chattering, especially if them dampers are valved for pure tar !

thats what i was thinking, 500 is very hard isnt it,

i have entered time attack and i dont really use the car on the road very often, so not worried on the ride quality,

i will get the numbers tommorow and post them up and hopefully you can shed some light
