Diesel Cars
Right what nice cars are out there, budget is 7-8k Tops
Im after either an Estate, of it not an estate then something with a largish boot.
Option so far i've considered:
Audi A4 Estate
Volve V40 Estate
Pug 306 (Boots a bit small)
Focus TDI (About the right boot size for a non estate)
So what other option are there:
Criteria are:
Very reliable, esteically pleasing, good mpg, low depreciation, good boot.
Cheers

Golf TDi 150 engines are supposed to be good as well!
Personally I have a Laguna hatchback derv workhorse, the boot is bigger than the Grand Canyon - I've yet to find anything that won't fit and i've shifted a lot of stuff! Economy isn't bad - 650-700 miles from a Ł50 tank. Been reliable for the last 20k in 12 months. Depreciation isn't an issue when it cost Ł1700 for a 2000 W reg car.
Only problem is it is a boat and looks crap!
Suits me for long motorway jaunts though... Wouldn't hesitate to recommend one for someone in a lower price range!!!

needs to be diesel though Aaron, and deisel tourings are quite hard to find, especially turbo'ed versions.
306 Estate Might be and option
the 306 is an awesome little car

The 306 HDi can be a bit troublesome though, I have a few mates that have had trouble with the injector pump packing in, and not on high mileage cars either. I agree that the 306 is a cracking car, they handle really well and the performance isn't too bad either!

What ever diesel i get if Stu can do it, it will be done that already been decided.
Just finding a nice deisel, with less than 100k and still nice looking is proving quite a challenge

Gota recommend a 306 hdi estate, you get all the extras as standard on them too, rear discs, air con, leather, and there cheap aswell.
The hdi engines in general are SOLID AS ROCK, we have vans at work on 150000miles with no major probs from new
My 206hdi has been chipped and now running just over 130bhp, a similar re map would give you the same gains for about 250quid

Just gonna have a search for a low mileage fully loaded one.

From: Essex... and Birmingham!
Tiff, I drove a mates RangeRover TD and found it really really painfully slow...
Just a warning mate.... mind you I had the 4.6 at the time so maybe it was just that.
The Diesel I want a go off right now though is the Lamborghini Gallardo DIESEL
mad but TRUE!!!

I spoke to Stu about it and he said he could free up another 40bhp and some touque, so i will see how that fairs
4.6 are just TOOthirsty for my missus to be doing the school run with

Yup....was gonna suggest 306HDI/TD Estate too - plenty on eBay recently for not alot of money....all seem to be silver/blue for the estates too - you'll easy get one for Ł7-8k - with change to spend on nice alloys maybe & a few other extras!! You'll prob find that they are dirt cheap on insurance like the 3/5drs - group 5.

A4 would be my choice. I really didn't want to like ours but I can't not like it.
It's been good as gold (despite me thrashing it ). It's quiet, comfortable, easy to drive, good on fuel. good boot.
I wish we'd brought a bigger engined one though and the TDi was what we were actually after at first but really had to get what was available at the time as the hire car company wanted there car back after the accident.
I would reccomend one of these to anybody wanting a sensible car

Mine is a lowly 1.6 petrol.
Having said that we didn't buy it to rip the tarmac up it was brought to be the runabout. We loaded the car fully with gear for a holiday to Cornwall and it got us down to Cornwall and we drove around for a day once we arrived before needing to fill it up again.
Just for the build quality I'd get one. German cars just seem to be so well nailed together compared to other cars. As I said I wanted to hate it but I just couldn't.
It has a nice image about it to. It's posh enough to not be a pretender without being in your face and snobby.
An excellent car that we are both very pleased with

I have a Rover 220SDI Turbo, as my runabout, and the amount of power it has his Beautifull, sometimes it even spins in second, has wicked grunt. Thing is, its boring looking car, handling is crap unless you take the right line on the road.
But id rather use it then i do my 2i cos the thing flies.
