Mine is a lowly 1.6 petrol.

Having said that we didn't buy it to rip the tarmac up it was brought to be the runabout. We loaded the car fully with gear for a holiday to Cornwall and it got us down to Cornwall and we drove around for a day once we arrived before needing to fill it up again.

Just for the build quality I'd get one. German cars just seem to be so well nailed together compared to other cars. As I said I wanted to hate it but I just couldn't.

It has a nice image about it to. It's posh enough to not be a pretender without being in your face and snobby.
