Hi can anybody tell me if after market HID kits are ok in the latest shape focus's as im worryed about the plastic headlights, I have fitted them in my range rover over a year ago and no really hate driving the focus at night.

I've not heard about any kits melting plastic headlights, but it's not 'techinically' legal.

Does anybody have a focus with them fitted ??

i have them fitten in my focus st170, they have been in now about 10 months and not melted anything, pretty sure the headlights are plastic

I thought that HID's run at a lower temperature?

Do they may be never fely my headlight to be honest i just dont want to wreak a newish car as it wouldn't be cheap to replace the lights

HID tend to run much cooler using less power than normal bulbs. They are legal to use if you have a clear projector type lens not the normal refracted lens which changes beam pattern you find HID into normal lens will blind oncomming traffic regardess how you aim the head lamps hence illegal or mot failure.

I ran them on an old focus and I put them in a mondeo too. Failed the MOT both times as there was no beam pattern. Also needed to rewire the lights on the mondeo with heavier relays/fuses as the start up current they draw was blowing fuses knocking out the relays! This was an expensive kit at the time too.

Far more hassle than they were worth, and no brighter than a decent set of halogen bulbs.

The hole point of HID's is that a bigger percentage of the inputted power comes out as light and less as heat.

The hid kit i have on my range rover has a relay box and live straight off the battery (fused) so no extra power taken through the normal wiring so i'm not gonna have any probs there.

I disagree on the halogen bulbs being as good as hids i had an expensive set in my sierra and thought they were good when new about after a while they seemed no worse than standard bulbs o i got used to them.
