why go to the exspence , i have ran a standard diff with 340-360bhp for 5 years on track and to shows. It has had no problems whatsoever, an upgrade for the sake of an upgrade imo, over 400 defo but not for 350bhp

You might find this an interesting read - esp the costs involved of the comparative makes unless you are confident of fitting in an alternative diff into your existing set-up yourself.

Only thing I would say is try out a car with the type you are thinking of if possible before you commit. You migh not want some of the 'characteristics' of the different types that you hadn't considered - depends if your car is solely for track or just road use with occasional track use

Yo fat boy! How you doing mate? I run a Quaife ATB, pleased with the way it puts the power down. Ideally need a 9" for full blooded launches on mine but don't have the 3-5 grand it will cost

i have a gripper in mine its an awesome diff locks both wheels up with out fail and gives me very good traction i blew my standard diff too bits with 350 fitted the gripper but took all the teeth off my crown wheel and pinion with 500 so now there shot peened and super finished!

i dont get why people waste there time on standard diffs to be honnest there rubbish they dont lock both wheels very well and there so easy to brake something like a gripper or a quaife will give so much better traction when mine had 350 with coilovers and road legal slicks it smashed the plannet and sun gears to bits!and with 500 i took all the teeth off the crown wheel and pinion just comeing off a rounderbout hard in 2nd!

The benefit of the VC seems to be it is MUCH cheaper than a Quaife and ATB - the costs I could ascertain were into 4 figures for a plated one or Quaife fitted new ( see linked post above )

can you DIY rebuild a std diff to make it very aggressive?
i have a spare 4x4 rear diff, that should mine break, will be getting welded.
i was sold 4x4 rear diff/beam/shafts etc as 2wd by some joker off here and dont have the funds to get proper 2wd stuff yet.
so ill see how long it lasts, but i do have a spare.

One of the weak links is the cwp which doesn't come with a new diff, ATB or plated.
If you want a plate diff drop Steveboyslim a PM as he sorted Porkies out.
There is no comparison between a stock lsd and a plate or atb, both of those are FAR better and IMO the plate is ideal for circuit use

i payed 700 for my gripper and 50 pounds to get my cwp shot peened and super finished then about 90 pounds on bearings and seals so was all in under 900 but that was with me rebuilding it. Also needed drilled flanges as they are bolt in but gripper did these for me as exchange and i had too mod my caseing to get the gripper unit in as its bigger!

i'm with you jb!! why fuck about with centres spending ŁŁŁŁ when the crown wheel and pinion break, then you have to pay to have your centre put into a new diff another Ł150 and another month off the road...
when my welded gives out the next diff i get i'll be welding to the case extra surports across to stop the case stretching and letting the crown gear and pinion have less contact area causing them to break..

With the Quaife you will need to purchase output shafts or get some from an open diff, which is not too easy to find as most open diff run smaller lobro joints.

it cant be that hard, but i want to know if the parts needed are readily available and if you need any special tools etc...
if i blow the dif that is in it, i will take it apart and see how it goes together etc as you dont learn anything by paying someone else to do things for you...

i used the FF drift shitter every day for a year to drive to work and back, 70 miles a day...
the only time you notice it is when making a tight turn ie parking, or when the arse lets go and you dont crash like you would have in a std 2wd cos lol
