yes of course but it would be a hollow victory is basically what
i am saying, for instance did rover use gas on their 200+ mph
ZT-t at the salt flats? no, but they would have gone faster with it!

after thinking about this for a while i put myself in rods shoes (they
were a little tight but i got them on in the end!)... if i had been him
firstly i would have tried to build an engine that was not gas
dependant to do the job... but that aside and having decided to
use gas.... i would, to prove a point have firstly blitzed the hadland
guys time without gas and then gone on to switch on the gas and
see how far i could push it.

out of rods shoes and back into my own, i have always had a bit
of a problem with nos recorded times against non nos equipped
cars (and it doesn't matter if the nos car was a shead,gibbs,norris
or my best mate or indeed my mom) because its too easy and
doesn't last long enough. and it ups the ante to a degree where
everyone is forced to run nos unless they are prepared to spend
fortunes on an engine that's probably only good for that job. then
it becomes a matter of the man who is prepared to shovel the most
nos into his engine to get the highest top end.

i actually don't have a problem with someone going faster (and rod clearly has) its just the way its done. this could upset bruce but
secretly i would have loved to run his car without gas for the
reasons above.

Hi Martin, missed your comment last night.

My opinion is that from a RECORD point of view NOS should be allowed and to that extent I consider Rod the top speed holder. However from a purely engineering point of view NOS is cheating in the sense that it has nothing to do with how well engineered the original engine is other than from a strength point of view. We can use nitrous on any engine strong enough to obtain a huge power increase and I 100% agree that what will happen now is that the record is purely based on he who is prepared to run most nitrous. In my opinion this has gone too far now as this runs the engine at great risk which is really beyond the ability of the average man in the street. This means that any future record attempts have to be tuner run cars! (In the sense that joe blogs cant possibly maintain and ensure a 800+ YB is going to be reliable without 100% support at an event from their tuner)

However for myself I don't run nitrous on my own car as its a road car and as such has to cover 1000's of miles. Having nitrous would rather defeat the point that my car is practical and has 600+bhp useable everyday without having to worry about nitrous refills or engine failures!

However I accept that allthough I am unwilling to run NOS my cars times will be directly compared to cars that do run NOS, and I'm fine with this as thats each persons choice. You will see shortly that most of the current engines Im producing/produced run nitrous but this is at customer request, NOT by my choice!

My own cars are for my enjoyment and as such I'm happy to leave others to squabble about it.

Although I appreciate others do like to break records as its human nature to be competitive, I've got more important things in my life than purely cars!

I CAN actually see why Rod and Mark used NOS.

Rod like using his car on the road and so wanted it to be as Torquey and responsive as possible. To do 200mph without NOS will probably require a bigger Turbo than a GT35, and a powerband much higher up in the rev range which is not really what Rod likes as far as I understand.

His current engine is torquey low down and probably nice to use on the road and yet with NOS can still do 200mph at Brunters (that is VERY VERY fast)

So I can totally understand why they have done it.

Will I be more impressed when a cossie does it without NOS? yes of course!!!

I don't actually think its that hard really. It just takes alot money, a good tuner and some quality prep! Mark proved he could do as he was fortunate enough to have a customer whose focus was topspeeds in Rod I am certain if my aim was to do 200mph, Martin could build me one. Its not rocket science! I also think Stu could do it for one of his customers as could Karl, Brom and Harvey etc etc...

However the most impressive performance of 2005 for me was actually Simon Norris and his Evo. 200mph without GAS on his first attempt at Brunters and some simply awesome sprint times!

Yep, sad to say but Martin is right. Why are people still splashing out massive wads of cash on these old Fords when an Ultima does it straight out of the box, looks mental & am fairly sure it corners better than your average Saff although on the down side you won't get your shopping or 4 passengers but I think I could live with that
