Default when fitting a L8 ecu into a 2wd car is it,,,,,,,

when fitting a l8 into a 2wd car should you change the idle speed control valve?

i know the diffence between them is the 4wd iscv is that is has an internal protection diode for back emf!

does the 2wd ecu have one fitted inside?

thanks for looking

Only thing you change is the TPS and the 2 outer wires swapped round on wiring to TPS

GARETH T, The L6 already has reverse EMF protection for the ISCV.
It just so happens that some later ISCV's have an additional diode as this valve is
used on other cars fitted with the weber IAW system (ferrari, fiat, lancia etc)

Simon,
You may be able to help here then. The L6 and L8 items have a different part number. Are they perfectly interchangeable or not then as ive had unusual results a couple of times and to be honest, dont fully understand whats what with em.... fookin things

Stu - I dont think they are perfectly interchangeable size wise anyway. Mike R knows though.

They are precisely the same size to my knowledge.

can you still get 2wd ones new? if not maybe they discontinued the 2wd item so all they could use was the 4wd item with the added diode

But the arent available due to the last vehicle using em being over 10yrs old.

As with many Ford items, they only agree to stock it for ten years im told.

If you mean you have problems when swapping valves, I have discovered
that on some wiring looms the ISCV connections are reversed.
So if you put an ISCV with internal diode on such a reversed loom,
the effect is the diode shorts out the supply from the ecu and does not work.
In this situation, the valve wires should be reversed and all should be ok.

Hmm..
There are deffo inconsistencies somewhere but there doesnt appear to be any rhyme or reason to it as i have both 2 and 4wd valves and they dont BOTH work ok on all 4x4s but they do on SOME
