Default BMW techys help

cant remember who it was that worked for bmw on here.

My E46 330d has got a hesitant power when under load then picks up later on in the rev range. I think its the MAF but been told if i put a new one on i have to take it to a BMW Dealer to get software updated?

is this right? how much or long does that take?

Cheers

if you fit a new maf you would then have to have the previous maf,s fault code cleared from the memory.

i think it only applies to pre 92 ish cars, but the original maf is no longer available.the replacement part has to be recalibrated by bmw.takes around 90 mins so ive been told
if you buy from a bmw dealer, the reprogramming is included in the price.iirc

Sometimes the ammount of guessing & fucking about you do trying to find faults like these you would be better booking it in to a bmw dealership paying £45 + vat for a diagnostic test you caould use little diagnostic scanners all day long with stupid fault codes but in a dealerhsip they will work through a test schedule & have a decent answer for you. You could stick a maf on it because someone told you & its still the same. Could be a few faults on this car turbo wastegate? turbo on its road out , inlet manifold burst? maf untill you get it tested properly you could spend a fortune throwing parts at it & couls have most likley saved a bit by getting it tested right first time round.

about £120+vat near me and they are useless, sent a car to them to have the variable valve timing recalibrated after id dont the head gasket on it cus i didnt want to fork out 300quid for the timing kit and the car set on fire on the way home cus they hadnt put the rocker cover back on properly and it pissed oil all over the manifold! sued them tho and got a decent out of court settlement off them tho!
