oil pressure problem (CVH)
Rite guys i think ive got a bit of a problem with the oil pressure on my cab Its currently got a fairly new (under 3k mile) 'high pressure' oil pump from PJ motorsport.
When i start the car in the morning and let it idle i get arround 60Psi of oil pressure... (ie 60Psi @ cold idle)
now when ive been driving a while and the oil is getting up to temp say anywhere between 70-90 degrees then i get really shit pressure at idle.. ive seen it as low as 15 Psi! although its normally arround 25Psi which i still think is very low...
When motorway cruising or accelerating i see arround 40Plus psi of pressure....
ITs just at idle is crap...
Whats causing this... i know the oil will be 'thiunner' when warm and hence there will be less pressure... but it drops so dramatically!
Ive tried changing the oil and it does seem to improve the pressure but only by arround 5 Psi and then after 500 miles or so it will drop again
Any help much appreciated

had to use my engineering degree to get the fucker to fit rite as well!
The nice 'swans neck' on the end of the bottle allowed an easy fit to the bteather hose that goes to the block though!

15 psi on idle when hot is fine You wont get more than 40 when hot due to the pressure releif spring in the pump

i remember you saying that a burtons pump buggered your engione.. which TBH is partially whats made me worry about this issue!
Its your fault im so apranoid!
what exactly happened in the end that fucked your engine up!

low oil pressure when warm basically.
after a while i.e like 2-3k miles i noticed the oil pressure light occasional flicker after a thrash on the motorway when pulling on to stand still, made me wonder, asked on here, spoke to Karl, really helpful, straight to the point
he said what pump you running, i said burtons high pressure, he said, thats the engine fucked then
whipped the sump and mains off and sure enough he was right
I never fitted an oil pressure gauge, wish i had now, wish i had done alot of things differently, but you live and learn, its all part of the expensive ford "experience"
You can never have to many "make you really paraniod" guages

the oil light used to flicker on my old cab... 2 days later a con rod and big end decided they would no longer like to be attached to the crank and proptly exited stage right!

yep ive had problems with my burton pump. changed for a standard one but im pretty sure the bearing will have been worn. use to make nearly 100psi on start up and about 50psi when running and about 20 on idle.
it dont do that know though

15 psi @ idle is just about ok much lower and I would be getting concerned
What concerns me more is the oil pressure above 3000 rpm, much below 40 psi and you run the risk of damage to the big end bearing on boost
Have had lots of fun and games with different oil pumps over the years from defiant manufactures, companys. To cut a long story short the only pump to use is the original Ford one.
Question, did you have good oil pressure when you first fitted the new pump?
Cheers
