Holidaying in Cornwall
Any suggestions of best places to go for families? We are looking to book somewhere this week, for 2nd week of August, never been but Newquay looks really appealing, any ideas and recommendations appreciated!

As a family years ago, we always stayed in a caravan park near Padstow, Mother Ivy's Bay it was called. Great spot, nice beaches, Padstow is great for a family day out to a traditional harbour.

TBH Newquay is a bit of a shite hole, loads of drinking, stag and hen dos etc. Perranporth is a much nicer place and has a way better beach. My girlfriends mum has a static caravan on the other side of Cornwall close to Looe, Polperro, she does take bookings etc if your intrested, is a lovely place.

We stayed in Porthtowan last year, the place we had was amazing 
We stayed in a place called Ocean Breeze and you could nearly piss on the beech from balcony

There are me and Lee, and 3 kids - so need 3x beds, as isnt practical for one to sleep in the lounge area for the night, something we need to look at
A few people have said Perranporth as well, We want to caravan, not B&B or camp.

There is a good Haven site at Perranporth, Perran Sands recently refurbed with a lot of money spent, you can visit the Blue Bar in Porthtowan as its only a 15 minute drive from there, Falmouth is just over half hour away and St Ives is definately worth visiting.

We've been to Looe Bay caravan park once, its alright there, 5 minute drive down into Looe for pasties every day!
Or if you only went as far as devon, I'd highly recommend Ladram Bay, have been there 3 times now, got their own private beach, restaurant, pool etc. Entertainment is good too for the kids. Had new vans last year, so they are all very good

http://www.hendra-holidays.com this place is just outside newquay has its own club a really good pool complex and a morrisons is about 1/2 mile away

We looked at the Hendra Holidays park and it looks fantastic, seems like one of the best options so far, but will check the others out, it seemed as if it was a really strict site from reading the T&C's

it can be a little noisey from the club at night, but its not too bad. the pool is excellent though.
the only problem is parking in newquay is Ł1 per hour so can get expensive but there are regular buses from just outside hendra
we prefered porth beach though as the car stayed on site and we walked accross the road to the beach.

We always go on holday early in the summer to Cornwall and love it. I don't like Newquay any more, it's really run down now and it's a bit of a shit hole these days 
We always stay at a caravan park near St Austell called Pentewan Sands, it has it's own private beach and it's in a nice location to get to anywhere in Cornwall quite easily.
As said above Falmouth is really nice and so is boscastle, fowey, mevagissy, you can't really go wrong.

thats where we went last year haven perranporth on the caravan site but for fuck sake dont buy the haven passes for the on site pool ect its a load of shit and waste of money but the site its self is very nice. great for walking on the beach to the town ect the park itself is clean but the on site shop is a ripoff big time.

try these. http://www.cornishholidaycottages.net/ ive used them a couple of times. look for honeysuckle corner on their site. it has a double a twin and a single room. 10 mins walk from falmouth center. nice little cottage and pretty cheap too

We go to st Ives every year and are going on 14 th august this year.
We stay at john folwer holiday park, me, mrs and 4 kids. They are purpose built and range from cheap bronze all the way to exspensive chalet.
Great sites with parks and bars on e.t.c and easy access to st Ives , newquay, penzanze and lands end

It is a lovely part of the country and seems to be plenty to see and do. The sunsets from the balcony are amazing too
and the family that run it seem to be really friendly. If you have dogs they allow them too and the cliffs are just behind the apartment.

good man, me n the ex went to newquay last year and we did a drive along a costal road stopping off at different places along the way and to say the least st ives was beautiful, admitted it was sunny and clear sky's but the sea was really blue and the beach was nice.perranporth is nice also but is a little small the pub on the beach there is worth a visit though
, out of the places i'v been along the coast there i'd say st ives is the prettiest with the most to do for family's.newquay is deffo an 18-30's place really, but prob's worth driving over to visit for a day

Whats more your the only person there! And even better, i live five mins away from such a place!

The Whiteacres site mentioned at top of the thread is quite an awesome park, went there a few years ago, huge park, lots of lakes, plenty to do. Didnt think much of Newquay when we ventured into it, had more fun just driving off randomly and coming across little beaches and harbours, just exploring. Also went to a site near Lizard Point few years ago, from what I remember was well and truly in the sticks, but private beach, excellent views, but miles from civilisation. I'm hoping to go back down there at some point this year, dont know if anyone else thinks the same, but everything down that way just seems so relaxed, slower pace of life, or maybe it was just cos we had a good, relaxing break.
