Don't waste your money
I've got a 1m c-p one from B&Q and it barely last 5 minutes and takes hours to charge.
Anyone I've met with one says the same.
Buy a decent LED one instead.

Anyone notice the amount of heat that comes of the 5 million candle power types, that is the reason why they don't last long, makes a good fire though if you're cold.
Back to the question, incan or LED is the first question, LED is the answer unless like a freind you want one that will throw 1 mile ?, pointless in my opinion, as most people can't see anything smaller than a truck at 1 mile!!
It depends a lot on what you want to do with it, do you want a "floody" type of light or a narrow beam for further range ?, you can now get LED's that do both.
Assuming you want a rechargeable one, it would best, and use either 18650 batteries or RCR123 batteries.
You can get led's modded also built to spec, eg you can have a maglite body as host to some Seoul SSC P7C led's three of these, in the one torch would be enough light to COMPLETELY outshine a HID headlight by a huge amount, but still doesn't have throw, I would say so long as under 500 feet get led no contest.
Assuming you just want a regular everyday torch, I would get something like a OLIGHT T25, power it using either NIMH or primary cells, the NIMH or Nickel Metal Hydride are rechargeable, and very good for constant use/cost.
If it is to be left for long periods but MUST be ready when called for, use LSD NIMH such as SANYO Eneloops, lsd is low self discharge, all batteries suffer this, some more than others.
If only wanting it as above though you could use primary(ordinary) batteries, and I would recommend(and use myself) ENERGIZER ULTRA LITHIUM, these have a 15 YEARS shelf life, so certainly low self discharge!!
Of the leds lights pretty much all can be found with equivalent rechargeable cells, usually NIMH if std type cells such as AA C D etc, but a lot(not all) can also take the same size cell but in LI ON lithium polymer, a massive increase in battery density for better performance, these are what I use in my led lights, need a spefic charger though but not dear.
If you look on www.candlepowerforums.com you will see loads of actual beam shots, I buy a lot from www.dealextreme.com I bought the MTE SSC P7-C torch, it's awsome full power is around 1 1/2 hours but around 5-6 hours on low, which is still brighter than a 3 d maglite, it also has these useless SOS and strobe modes, well great for aggravating actually!!
The gf use a 2AA TESCO 3watt led torch, cost £12, very tough, been dropped laods of times, led's don't break when dropped unlike hot incandescent(normal) bulbs.
She uses this for about 4 hours a week in total, I am still on the same set of batteries as this time last year when I bought them, no discernable light loss, as led's work at very low voltages typically 1.8 - 2.4V, they will work with "flat" batteries that a normal torch won't light with.
There are so many good led's it's untrue, but also some crap, I must have around 100 by now, we even use one on low as a nightlight, rather than burning a 12 watt CFL.
I reamed out the tesco light so the ever so slightly fatter UNIROSS NIMH didn't keep getting jammed, reamed using a blacksmiths drill.
I've also got various modded ones.
