Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground wins noise order battle

An order forcing a former airfield turned car track to quieten down has been quashed following a public inquiry.
Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, which holds corporate and charity driving days when people drive fast cars around the 400-acre site, was told by Harborough District Council it was making too much noise.
The council said the owners of the site were breaching the conditions of their planning permission by hosting events not connected to testing cars.
But the proving ground, near Lutterworth, appealed and the council lost the case.
The council's enforcement notice, served almost a year ago with the support of 87 residents, has been quashed.
However, the planning inspector has made several demands of the track to please residents in the area.
Owner David Walton can still host events to raise cash, but he is now required to have a quiet Sunday once a month and the whole issue will be reviewed in 2011.
A spokesman for Harborough District Council said: "We have the decision that comes with a detailed report and a number of conditions that will need to be carefully looked at."
Mr Walton argued the activities had been allowed in the past and he had permission to hold the events.
Mr Walton was unavailable for comment yesterday.

This all started from one bloke who lives at the end of the runway in gilmorton complaining at every single opertunity he complains about anything and everything car related
but as soon as the jets are blasting up the runway hes straight round with his camera snapping away and believe me all the jets up there are far louder than any car ive ever heard up there and ive worked up there for just over two years
mark.

Unfortunatly our vulcan isnt there any more she's down at raf lyneham up on jacks for her winter service if we can raise enough money if not im out of a job again.
Its rarely used by jets to land any more we still get the odd proped plane come in they only run up the jets every now and again for fast taxi runs a couple of weeks ago they had the pair of lightnings doing runs just as it was getting dark and the after burners looked ausome when they kicked in.
