Mate thats heart breaking

Had exactly the same situation. We had a King Charles Cavalier who had a heart murmur. Found out when he was about 4 years old and six month later started getting sicker and sicker. Until eventually I came down one morning and he was in his basket next to the kitchen radiator woke up when I came in, waged his tail. I said hello, and by this time we knew he was very ill, he was slow, but it didn't dampen his enthusiasm to see me. Opened the back door to let him into the garden, when to put the kettle on and when I locked back he was laying by the door looking out into the garden. Its only when I went to see what he was doing did I realize he had died.

Most heartbreaking moment of my life so far bar the exception of my Grandfather Dieing.

I really do feel for you mate, its so hard to loose one, because in the end, they become part of the family, and you know they love you as much as you love them.

No other animal does that, I mean, cats? Phish

It was the right thing for ME to do but to watch her die at such a young age when infact her will to live was so strong it was just her very ill heart that wouldn't work any longer. It was so heart wrenching to watch her die and seconds later come back to life it felt like an eternity

You obviously haven't had cats then, believe me, ours are just as much part of the family as a dog would be if we had one.

Really sorry to hear about your loss, sounds like she was well loved though and had a good life.

I have had a cat, and I hate em, creap about only giving you attention when they want something. I mean, a cat was never bloody happy to see me when I got home! Nor did it ever come to me to play or just have a cuddle. Bah, will never have one again. But thats my opinion

Thats fair enough mate, our cats always come to us when we come in from work or whatever, and not just because they want feeding either because they always have food out, and they're always wanting to play or are wanting a fuss from us, i guess we're just lucky to have 3 friendly, sociable cats lol.
Anyway, not hijacking the thread, just my opinion also.

Sorry to hear that, just thinking about losing my Buster chokes me. He's 9 now, Collie x German Shepherd, seen me through 5 gf's, plenty of rough times, I've even been to court for him. When his time comes, he's going to be cremated, and then when its my time, he'll be buried with me.
And for those that aren't dog people, you'll never know what a true, loyal friend is until you've had a dog.

Tony - that is really sad news. I can share the pain. I remember standing in the rain, down in the woods at the bottom of our garden burying one of our dogs after they had died at the vets. Broke my heart and still does today for all of the poor buggers we had to bury down there :-(.

Cracking wee dog mate, looks so healthy and fit there, you should be proud though mate that you gave her a good 5.5 yrs of life, alot of dogs out there to be honest would be better off no more the way they are treated and conditions they live in,

Jsper has that look, gonna be a hand full, little terror!

Sorry to hear that man, I remember posting on your thread about it a while back. I know it's crap, worst thing about pets is as you say it's like losing a family member. On a positive note, depending on how you look at it, atleast it didn't happend when you were out or in bed asleep. Chin up, you know you did all you could.

Really sorry to hear of your loss Tony, you are right, these pets become part of our family and leave a real gap when they go.

We have lost all three of our cats on the roads now. The last one, Ted, really was a big loss to us, we had always said how he was so perfect as a pet, no trouble, so affectionate etc. The worst bit is that we were SO close to never having the answer. I had been out looking for him on Sunday morning, at which time his remains had been moved off the road, I could have so easily found him like that which would have broken my heart. I didn't walk that way, luckily (in an odd way). He did lose his collar in the accident and somebody took him to the vets, but they were about to dispose of him by the time we found out where he was (Wednesday) and we would have never known.

It is terrible to lose a pet, but at least its a little better when you know what has happened and you know that whatever pain they were in is over.

It does get easier eventually, but as a family who adore our pets, we know how it feels. Just remember the good times and appreciate the time you have with your other pets.
