I would imagine Porkie is in a far better position to throw money at cars then Dave and Helen (no offence meant to either of them btw) He has been there, done it and got the T shirt and no doubt lost a LOT of money through doing it so I'd see it as good advice.
Its a great car but the goal you are chasing is really not of much importance and as you say a big risk, financially and more importantly for your own lives.
The fact your getting into track days more is a good enough reason to go back a few steps and enjoy them as you do not need something like YUM to have fun and even if you do start throwing a few quid at something else you can still make it relatively cheap to mantain unlike YUM which as you have said yourself could lose you upto 40k in the event of a serious breakage or worse.
I'm sure you will have no problems breaking it and making a considerable amount of money back to go and enjoy yourselves with.
Good luck with whatever you do

It's also the reason we have bought the Clio 172 and took mine off the track and road as everytime I went out I was breaking the gearbox, gets dam expensive and annoying the car is again off the road.
So we have the Clio for my daily hack and our track toy, dont need to throw any money into it as we bought it with everything it needs for the track.
And Dave would like to get something more comfortable and realiable, which could be in the shape of a Focus RS

I don't think Dave would ever be happy in another Cosworth. It just won't feel right
I assume you would get discount on a new Focus RS from local friends (Not mentioning details on here), so will be even more of a good deal
I was tempted with one when I was selling my Esc Cos, but £30k on a car that will be worth £15k in 5 years or under just didn't do it for me Atleast an Esc Cos will keep its value and go up as they get rarer This is another reason I won't cage mine as you can't put it back to standard after
When you getting a parts list up so I can see what I want??

So as soon as l have payment from them the list will go up

Dave,
I know your mind is made up, but didn,t you ever consider dropping down to a GT30 and having a RELAIABLE well set-up track/weekend car?? i mean the engine etc Mark Built would be bullet proof surely running a GT30, bit like Doug Stirling does..still be a bloody quick car too.....

Not surprised, think Dave realised the Holy grail was a long shot. Same Power as Martin had, gearbox on the im going to shit myself limit, less stopping Power & it took Martin 8 attempts. IMO it would need more Power & a stronger box to achieve the goal of reaching 200mph.
Its a pity that Dave is not going to at least have a bash but all in all its the correct decision. Its already been said that in the overall scheme of things its simply not important, its only a car & if you cant afford to take total loss then its best left to those that can. I can recommend a 1.4 Proton as being an absolute weapon on the road, its what i replaced my Cossie with .
Im sad & im sure Dave & Helen are, my only advice is stick to it this time Dave.

Dont blame you at all Dave, its a fucking fantastic car, but I wouldnt want to tie that much money up to own it myself either for the same reason that it makes no sense for you to do so really, which is that I simply would hardly ever get a chance to use it, thats a LOT of money for a car that gets driven about a dozen times a year at most realistically.

Would be crazy putting the engine flat out on a dyno just before you are about to sell it, currently its being sold in perfect working order, with an engine of that nature every time you use it you risk it not being anymore!

dave's post said he was interested what yum made at 1.9 bar. hope i get to see it.

what will fit saph cos 4x4 for a matter of intrest, engine bay chrome wise

Its a Shame. I remember it was on the cover of the first Fast Ford mag i bought (April 2001) and was one of the reason i bought a Escos. All good things come to a end!!! Goodluck with the sales Dave

sensible option Dave.
imo though, i would run it on the dyno day just to prove the bhp from the engine and that all is good with it, i think it should be pretty safe on the rollers.
good luck with breaking it Dave, hope you get a load of money back for the new car.

He mentioned someone was interested in the engine, so I guess the best thing to do if they are serious buyer, is find out if they want it on the dyno or not, as ultimately its their engine if they are going to put down a deposit on it or whatever.

I do not consider dropping & engine or box a horror story that is always a risk at this level.

Not read the post all of it but i understand what you mean £10k this year and no job saff needs to go from me and why not make helens a recored with your bits before you sell them shame i dont have the shell money !
