Side Repeaters On C Reg Cars MOT Question
Does anyone know for definite the laws/rules for MOT purposes?
As I'd like to lose my side repeaters but I think my S1 is too new and will fail an MOT without them.
Any MOT testers or people that know for definite?

not too relevant but I had a J-Reg 309 GTI that got hit, I replaced both front wings with no holes / repeaters and passed MOT fine
If they are on and dont work maybe there would be a bigger issue there?
Hope that helps

My F reg 205 GTi had non genuine wings with no holes and I had to drill and fit them before they would pass it! Fortunately that simple job took their attention away from the rest of the car falling apart

I think the rule is if they were fitted as standard, then they should be fitted and must work.
I had a B reg Capri 2.8I and they were not fitted, but they were added to newer models, so I am not exactly sure on the dates.

Seems to depend on the tester then.
Some idiot changed the side repeaters on my S1 to oval ones and they pissed about with the holes when they did it and it's left a right mess and it's going rusty. Was going to get a body shop to see if they could do something so I could fit standard square ones again but it would probably be easier to get the holes blanked completely, I think they look better without anyway!

i think its the year rather than reg letter, my series 1 was on a C but was an 85, it didnt have side repeaters and passed no probs, i think like already mentioned if they arent there then its not a problem, its when they are fitted and dont work!

M7 COS, I'm sure there is a way around it anyway if you can be bothered (I couldnt on mine so got the drill straight out!) But you can buy stick on LED side repeaters now, so if the MOT station moan just run the wires down the wing and only have them on for the MOT.
But remember the rule was made for safety reasons!!

I thought pre 86 cars didn't require side repeaters, but all cars registered during or after 86 did require side repeaters.
Don't know how true that is though?

your tester surely cant be an expert on all modlels of car ,just tell him they came like that as standard and if he says its a "whatever year"tell him it was registered late

When i put 2 new wings on my 3dr i had the option from ford of having wings with or without the holes, i was going to get the blank ones but was told that it wouldn't pass as it was a d reg, it needed to be a b reg or earlier and as mk1's were from y reg to d they were available in both

So did you go for the ones with holes in then?
Probably going to be best to get rid of the holes completely, in the same way you'd delock a door.
I'll post some photos tomorrow of what the holes look like at the moment.
Thanks for all the replies guys.

Cars registered 1st April 1986 onwards MUST have side repeaters fitted and working to pass the MOT...... but I suppose its a very easy thing to miss whilst testing if they aren't there

I know on XR2's. C reg was the last year to come without side repeaters. If they were legal then any C reg car can have them removed. After this reg, I've no idea.
