Is 99 Degrees to HOT??

I finally got my car fully up and running yesterday, left it running in the garage (heated) for about 2 hours.
The fans were cutting in at about 98 Degrees and cutting back off at about 88 Degrees.
Is this running toooo hot??
Can i get a fan switch to keep the temps a bit lower.
All temp figures were taken from the ECU read out on my laptop so should be dam accurate.

The fans cool it from 98 to 88 in about 25 seconds so do a great job, its just the fan switch doesn't cut in untill 98.
Thought that seemed a bit high.

that seems fine to me m8!
before my car had seen temps of 130deg!
this is what happens when u got the wrong water pump on!
stripped i down & the head gasket was mint!
replaced it anyway! cheers DOO

i would run it cooler. it's all well and good seeing what it does at idle, but you need to know that it's not going to get to hot when on load, ad the earlier you bring the fans in the better.
i would change the fan switch to the cosworth one that comes in earlier (88/77).

and you're unlikely to boil the water in a pressuried system that contains antifreeze.

i did have the part number on a piece of paper in my wallet, but must've cleared it out.
it's fitted to all 2wd sierra cossies, don't know about 4x4 and escos as i believe that some models have a 2 stage arrangement on the twin fans (in series for half speed, and in paralel for full speed)

zvhturbo - put on a 2wd cossie fan switch mate like foreigners said i have done the same, its a straight fit and you will notice the difference in temps but what i find is that once the fan kicks in, the temp never comes down enough for the fan to stop spinning, it hasnt been a problem though just somthing i have noticed, i run a standard erst rad and fan and standard erst thermostat from fords....... mine stays about 1/3 up the temp gauge

on the cossie it cuts in at 98C though since fitted my new alloy rad it never gets there unless its been idling for fookin ages!! Can remember with my std rad i only had to be stoped for 1min and the fans would cut in
Now with a more powerful engine it runs shit loads cooler!
IMO get new rads peeps makes helof a difference

I have a Pace Ally rad, 2 10" Kenlowe fans and a GRS intercooler.
The fans have no problem cooling the car, its just the fan switch cuts in so high.

Mine is a new switch but i'm not sure for what car, i'm sure i brought a ERST switch, that cuts in at 98 as well, and cuts off at about 88.

you could get yourself a nice adjustable one like what burtons/demon theives etc. etc. sell.

what rhys is seeing is because the temp sensor for the secs monitor is the ecu one in the head, and the fan switch is at the bottom of the rad.
of course the water in the head will be a lot hotter than at the bottom of the radiator, that's why you need such a low setting for the switch. the fan switch is put at the bottom of the radiator as it then only cuts the fans in when there isn't enough air movement over the radiator core tocool it. if you put it in the head, or on the top hose, it'd never cool down to the switch off point.

if your fan switch is in the head, once the engine is under any under load the fan will probably never go off as the thermostat's job is to keep the engine hotter than (in your case) 82 degrees.

Sorry Jim not directly in the head, my temp sensor and fan switch are next to each other in the thermostate housing, which is bolted to the head.

Fit a 4x4 saff cossie fan switch
They work alot lower temp range.
I have kicking about for my RST but didnt get round to fitting it durning the summer and so far havent needed it in the winter.

There is more pressure yes, but providing everything is in good condition, it'll be fine. Running an engine hot reduces wear and fuel consumption. If it's running at a decent temperature when crusing, getting hotter in traffic before the fan cuts in is no problem. There is no point having the fan cut in, and it fighting against the thermostat. I run a 92 degree stat in mine in the winter - better economy and hit heater.
