I personally believe the best tuners are practically unheard of to people who 'modify' cars. Everyone makes mistakes, but having a hectic garage to manage greatly increases the chances of them occurring.
The best of the best work alone in my opinion, are totally professional in every way and are complete masters at what they do.
I'm not going to name names though.

imo it depends on what work you mean. In the mapping side of things one person might be good at mapping a yb yet would not no how to ge the best results on of an evo engine for instence.

in my opinion it got to be mr zetec turbo himself " ian howell / area six " , a oneman band that started modifying his own cars as a hobby and changed the fwd ford scene to what it is today by finally modifying other peoples cars from word of mouth and building most of the quickest fwd cars todate . very professional , always willing to help , and a genuinely a nice bloke , plus he only uses the best people to do the jobs he cant do , map etc to other two are ahmed bajoo and harvey gibbs , i think thats what makes his zetec turbos stand out from the crowd

Impossible question to answer. Even if you narrow it down to only people who have done YB's, how do you define what is "best"? Biggest power output? Least number of blowups? fastest lap? highest speed? etc etc etc

reminds me of this:

Thats not having a go at him, he may be very good at the bits he does do, but without actually mapping the car himself, he is relying on other peoples tuning skills not his own.

If he isnt mapping the cars, then he isnt actually "tuning" them IMHO so I dont see how he is even really a "tuner" as such, let alone the best one.

What about specing brakes, ARB sizes, spring rates, etc,

It depends what you mean? Are we using the actual definition of tuning or what we now know as tuning?

I wouldnt personally ever trust someone to spec me an engine that cant map one too, if they dont understand enough to map an engine then they wont understand the effects of mega lumpy cams on transient fuelling and that sort of thing.
What about specing brakes, ARB sizes, spring rates, etc,
