15 years ago? get to the opticians and get your eyes tested, its not just testing your vision, they can see lots of other things from looking at your eyes, so its well worth going to get the all clear.

Didnt do anything for me either, that was taking them when you should aswell, i.e at the first sign

The doc says ive tried everything and its just a case of some work for some people and not others, and seeing as i dont get them too often he didnt advise i try the "other treatments", which consisted of having injections etc, i did kind of agree taking regular treatment for something which i only get every 3-6months was abit pointless, but having said that they are horrible arent they, but it seems theres nothing else that can be done
Came out the docs with a prescription for something which id taken before.

I get them all the time, I'm prescribed Dyhydrocodine for them, I needed to go into hospital to get fluid taken off my brain to relieve pressure a few years ago.
I also find those cool pads you get in the pound shop help a lot if you lye in a darkened room with it over your eyes.

Dyhydrocodine! heavy pain killers them. IIRC don't drink fizzy drinks as they turn into a trip of some sort.

Not had a migrain for months, swerve chocolate an am ok.

I very much doubt it's diet based. Normal headaches can be triggered by food etc, but proper migraines are generally chemical/hormonal. A few years ago my wife, who's prone to them, had a massive constant migraine for 6 weeks! She was literally disabled by it and had all manner of brain scans etc to get to the cause. It gradually eased, but they still rear up from time to time. She's on Maxalt/Imigran which sometimes work, sometimes don't.

The neurologist said that no one really understands what causes them, so it's just a case of trying lots of things to see what counteract them.

If i had a migraine theres no way i could drive, id be curled up on the back seat for 3-4 hours until i could even think of driving

i used to get them as a kid every few months only thing would be painkillers and sleep to get rid of them. used to throw up with really bad ones. always over my eye and temple. nasty things.

ive had a constant headache everyday since march this year. all scans ok they say its either miagraine again or could be sleep apnea which ive got to have a sleep study in the new year. probably more the 2nd one as i wake up gasping a lot

I have been getting them for 2-3 years now i guess, but normally 5-6months apart.

Currently taking Zomig zolmitriptan(2.5mg) which dont even touch me, and i reckon there the reason why im sick every time i have a migraine, its a joke, you try having a full blown migraine and feeling sick at the same time

So those dont work, ive tried migraleve, and ibuprofen, and also i think i tried something else from the docs aswell which didnt work, hence why im now on the Zomig

So i think another trip to the doctors next week to see what other shit they can sell me for Ł7-8
Try Immigran nasal - you spray it up your nostrils. Prescription only. Works very quickly.

I have been getting more headaches than normal of late.... as have a few of my friends. It could be the weather, could be stress as a lot more people are suffering mild doses of this at the moment too.

However, whenever I have had a migrane to the point of either feeling sick or actually being sick, it has been down to something that I have eaten. Usually around 20 mintues after I have been sick, the pain subsides enough to be able to sleep the rest of it off.

People with headaches and migranes should consult an oseopath.
I have treated many people over the years with headaches and migranes.
The cause for some peoples headaches or migranes can be down to neck or back problems.
If it's not then it's def worth ruling this cause out.

ive looked at this with interest and havent any of you heard of cluster headaches?
my brother inlaw is a fireman and one of the fittest men i know , gym min 5 times a week , eating healthly meals etc hardly ever drinks etc etc . he went on holiday to mexico and started these really bad headaches when he got back , he said that they were that bad he couldnt get to sleep and was smashing his head on the wall as it hurt that much !, his docotor said that he should rest and take pills so he went to see a specialist in london and he said it was cluster headaches and can start at any age , health etc and theres nothing you can do to get rid of them , rob also goes 5/6 months without headaches then he has bouts for 2/3 weeks , also the other interesting thing is that hes says he has a shadowing behind one of his eyes before he gets them , maybe thats what others are stating on here, i think hes now taking a new drug designed for cluster headaches and they seem to be working and if one does start up he has been given pure oxygen which helps stop the headaches raring up, my advice is if they carry on then go see your docotor and say youve read up about cluster headaches and you think you maybe having them, my bother inlaw also said that if anyone wants advice i could give his email address out so pm me if interested

hope this may help someone

cheers paul

i went to docs this morning and hes prescribed me beta blockers, but says that i have to take them every day without fail and be weened off them if i do decide to come off them.

this makes me a bit nervous about taking them as i tend to forget to take tablets!

the thing is... if i do take them and they do work, do i really want to be taking them forever? surely there has to be something else i can do.
has anyone had any experience with these?

yeah theres quite a few listed. its a matter of weighing up if i want migranes, or to take these forever and maybe get side effects. do beta blockers have an impact on blood pressure?

Yes.
Beta-blockers are for high blood pressure or the physical symptoms of anxiety (palpitations/sweating/short of breath etc).
The reason for coming of them gradually will be so that your blood pressure doesnt shoot sky high and your body can get used to regulating it on its own again.

Perhaps you wouldnt take them forever, it would just be a case of stopping them one day (under the gp's direction) and see whether you get a migraine again or not.

Beta-blockers dont usually cause people to have any yucky side-effects, is it propranolol?

ive been having constant headaches for weeks then last week BANG like a flick of a switch i got blurred vision
went the quacks and my blood pressure was through the roof..he put me on tablets, then went up the eye hospital to find out i have had a blood clot in my left eye, caused by high blood pressure, this has caused me to lose 80%vision in one eye, cant put it right either just have to hope it clears up, if it dosent then i just have to live with it....
