i have a 3g and am not too bothered about swapping for a 3gs, its definitely faster and is the better phone, but it's not superior enough for me to rush an upgrade through by selling my 3g.

If you dont have an iphone and arent in a contract then deffo go for the 3GS.
It's the latest and greatest.. so would be in-excusable not to.
If you are stuck in a contract with the 3G (as I am) then stay with it untill it expires, THEN see what the score is with iphones then.
I did get an iphone 3G on release day so my contract isnt far off finishing

I have just got a 32 gb iPhone 3gs ,it is a superb bit of kit. Go for the gs if you can as IMHO it is a lot quicker and smoother, and in side by side tests with my mates 3g is a lot quicker. Also consider in a couple of years the 3gs will still be worth a fair bit if you want to sell it.

Thanks chaps....I spontaneously cancelled my Orange contract ( see other thread ) and am expecting my 32gb 3GS tomorrow morning, and I dont really know much about them, apart from they make me feel like I want one when I see other people using them on the train rofl
What can they do then thats cool?
Can I use it as a map/satnav type thing? And does it cost me if I do?
etc etc

The phone does so much cool stuff, after a few days you will wonder how you've been doing without it for so long!
If there is something you want it to do that it doesn't, then you can bet your ass that theres an App in the App store to do it!

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
your contract includes unlimited internet access on iphones, so you can use the maps function as much as you like, it works really well!

Just the download speed really.
You'll also notice that youtube Videos wont show in high quality with 3G or Edge connection, but will be very crisp and clear with Wifi
Facebook works much better on Wifi too, especially when chatting.

Nice one...thanks for info chaps, keep it coming!
ps. Does it automatically switch from 3g to wifi if it detects a hotspot or a network it already has the key for?

I have bookmarked the sites i use most, then when i launch safari i can be online within seconds, much easier than me turning the laptop on if all i want is skysports or summat.
I would recommend getting another charger for work, although you should get a spare USB lead which will charge it ( you'll kill the battery in the first few weeks whilst you are getting used to it.)
The App store is brilliant, there is literally thousands and thousands of things you can download to do anything you want!
Camera isnt as bad as everyone says either, ive taken some good pics on mine.
I have not had any problems whatsoever, and Apple keeps providing free software updates via itunes which is really handy!

Could an Iphone be used for the above items and is writting emails and surfing the net almost as easy as on a laptop?

Ive got a 3G and will only upgrade to the 3Gs when my contract is up in March. My son will get my 3G and put it on PAYG for him as he loves playing the games (I will download for free using my sim). He wants an IPod for Christmas, so its cheaper for me to upgrade and give him the 3G than buy him an IPod of decent size memory.

You will probably look into getting a sound dock for it too...as the ipod is a big part of it IMO.
The best one i tried was the B&W Zeppelin, but it's pricey at around Ł400

I settled on the JBL Radial, which i much preferred over the Bose systems.

I used outlook to import contacts from my old phone and then sync them with itunes (make sure the option is ticked)
also, WiFi is needed when downloading apps bigger than 10mb

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Girlfriend has got one and best advice I can give is sell it and get an N97. Its got a good screen and a good girlie phone but its not really a 'lads' phone with all the trimmings.

Proper girls have nice fingernails, and struggle with touch screens IME......so not a 'girls' phone........lol....unless your missus has man hands

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I take it you've not seen a girl text with their nails then especially when gossip is involved, I saw smoke coming off it the other day (deffo a girls phone from using it a lot when she got it).

Hence you cant use a stylus etc with one.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Even if that's true I meant the nails making noise rapidly catching or whatever rather than literally (as I said) point to point. I wouldn't know you see as I neither have nails or use said girls phone after the excitement of the screen wore off when she first got it. N97 and others piss all over it IMO but obviously apple pump out ten times more adverts and USA says its good so UK jumps (Just look at how many people on this site go calling each other 'dude' all of a sudden).
You enjoy your girls handset though mate, got a handbag to go with it?

Thanks for spoiling a nice thread you irritating scouse cunt. Enjoy losing at football again this season and then watching your best players leave next summer. Posting this on iPhone whilst taking a dump. If you'd have objectively told us why the n97 is so much better you wouldn't have sounded like such a know nothing mongtard. Oh well. But please fuck off my usefull thread
