Saw the car ripping up the track looking amazing. I read FasrFord raving all about it. I can understand why. What an amazing machine.
Its a good eye opener for the cocky lot thinking they own the track, this is a dangerous game we're all playing. This time the driver was lucky. You might not be. Befor you 'own' the track, make sure your car is safe for every situation.
Andy mate, chin up and we all hope to see you out in front again soon. You've got a legacy behind you now so, no pressure lol

Carlo/Andy, what spline was it that stripped?

Was it a corsa column going into a sierra joint? or was it a focus column with corsa electrics?

No offence but I am not giving a penny. Why should I pay for someone else's car to be fixed? I'm all for donations, but not towards parts from M-sport.

to do that he'd have to put up with every bozo and his dog at every event he attends wanting a spin around the track because theyed put a couple of quid in the kitty.
i wouldnt be donating though as its his car and whether someone builds a car or not has no effect on my life..

At the performance vauxhall show 2008 when Frosty spat his engine out on the strip, hundreds of people put money in a pot towards a new one for him.
Nice bit of community spirit I reckon.

It used Corsa electric power steering, as do most of the mk1 and mk2 escorts etc, its a very popular conversion as its such a good setup.

Rob runs a corsa setup on his astra, the standard vauxhall bits are mega reliable (TUV approved etc) but the aftermarket controllers can be temperamental, but it was a spline that failed not any of the electrics by the sounds of it.

Only Corsa C columns are splined on the output, corsa b one has flats.

Is there a particular supplier for the controller that guys who run this set-up recommend do you know?

Some of the ads on eBay and such don't look all that convincing, but the one that sounds the best to me that I've seen is a David Hyland unit. Know anything about them?

As the column off the vauxhall Andy runs from vauxhall is not splined on the output as standard i guess its got 0 to do with the vauxhall part of the steering unless the output of the column has been modified to spline it.

O and they aint that reliable believe me. Countless recalls and still have lots of faults now as standard.

Not sure if he is on corsa b or c setup so cant answer that mate.

The vast majority of them work perfectly well, i know loads of people who own them and dont personally know anyone who has had a problem.

Absolutely gutted for Andy, I actually saw the accident happen, was watching the track action from just behind the stand I was on and saw harvey go past in the esc cos slowly and thought they were on a cool down lap until I saw Andy coming screaming round a right hander just after the 2 main grandstand's then as he tried to take the small left the car started skipping and the back end was locking up then just continued onto the grass and straight into the tyre wall at a fair old speed!!!!

I felt physically sick after it happened, no-one moved in the car for what seemed like ages but was only a couple of second's then Andy got out and lay on the grass obviously a crash like that will shake you up a bit!! not sure what the smoke was off just after, thought it had caught alight but could of been auto extinguisher's maybe???

At the end of the day tho like other's have said as long as you can walk away from it that's all that matter's it's only a bit of metal at the end of the day but FOOK ME what a bit of metal BRING ON THE REBUILD

thats us back home all unloaded, had an inspection at the car and doesn't seem too bad mainly just panel damage none of the cage or suspension points have moved just the nose is over a bit i prob will just sit it on the jig to check it thou.. it was an after market spline that stripped not corsa one so may need a modification there!!
