whats best for cleaning up castings? (not my barnet!!)
ive stripped my stg 3 rs head and now want it spanking for when i put it back together
also shud i get the valve guides replaced while its in bits or are they usually ok??
heads not that long from a rebuild but its filthy cos the shed it was in caught fire and its got the usual muck on it too

caustic soda ne good?

i tryed it a few times on my yammy fs1e exhaust back in the day but it didt un clog it so i cut the baffels out


it will be done at home so pls dont say sumthin industrial

mind u im thinkin of buyin a cleanin tank from machine mart after xmas so if they are real good i could wait till then

Yes mate, got me saff 4x4 last January, done 10k in it this year, but none of them up the seafront! Can't say I,ve seen many mint white S2's about either. I work in Not so Gt Yarmouth too. Whats all this extended test shite? Drive, crash, get another one

 

i got done for dangerous drivin and just came off a 2 yr stretch ban
retake a extended test in feb and finger's x'd ill be back in action

teh white 1 has been in store since last spring

i have a d plate red 1 which has just been stashed up this week, dont do many miles tho, i had it on teh rd for a coupel of weeks but with L plates u get a bit of attention and teh temptation to race everything i saw was 2 much for me to risk getti done again, when i can drive alone its comin back

also have a white 1.9 xr2 laying in my garden and a mk1 xr2 which hasnt seen daylight for 5 yrs odd now

always done a great job on any parts ive done, carbon on heads can be a bit hard but a bit of work with a soft wire brush and thats gone also

 

Got some stuff at work called Britton. Industrial stainless cleaner. Don't get it on your hands though, it melts ya skin should do the job

look about for a washer too

in teh short term whats a good cleaner for just shoshin over it that i can get from wilco or somewhere

 

Seriously dude, do ya know a place called Atlas Industrial along the quay, Yarmouth side, opposite the total garage jus passed pertwee an back. Go in there and ask for a tin of Jizer, its de-greaser. If ya know where that is, keep goin and you'll find where I work on Sutton Road, come in the workshop and you can have some of the good shit.

was gonna use petrol but its not gonna do the job on the ash and crap thats in the head

 

Just take it to yer local engineering firm / machine shop... they can bath it for you, be like brand new... dont matter though will get dirty soon enough
