The egmo cars lost Bathurst for a minor mod to the arches so I doubt such a radical thing as moving the floor would have been allowed, never heard of it myself so I also look forward to the pics

Didn't Ford get caught out with the arch extensions they put on the 3-door/RS500? Originally I thought they added them so they could cut the arch lips away behind allowing them to run much wider wheel tyre combos.......
.....but just before they went racing the authorities changed the rules slightly saying you couldn't make metalwork changes to the car meaning that they couldn't take advantage of the arch extensions?

it was along those lines, the egmo cars had not been altered just for Bathurst and had run that way in the previous rounds of the WTCC but the ATCC read the rules differently to the rest of the ruling bodies and took away the win from the Sierras after the race, lot of local politics involved, they didnt like overseas teams winning the great race.
Egmo adjusted the cars after that, they had even had slightly wider lips to the outer rims made for the BBS wheels to widen them that were not available to the other teams.
It was a grey area and the rules were then firmed up for the later seasons to prevent it.

I remember Dick Johnson wasn't the most popular guy choosing to run a 4-pot turbo rather than a 'Proper V8 Ford'......until they realised he was the best chance of stopping the GT-Rs from winning....or at least giving them a hard time!
At least the Cosworth was a Ford to the Aussie crowds.......the Nissans were never popular with the die-hards on the hill.

bathurst 87 was basically a big shit storm..
to cut a very long story short all the teams were told by CAMS (the aussie version of the msa) a few months before to put there cars right before they arrived at the mountain. most of the teams didnt think CAMS would go through with it as they had the weight of the FIA behind them and expected CAMS to turn a blind eye like all the other local govening bodies had running wtcc races up to this event.
CAMS kept to there word and kicked the burger cars out of 1st and 2nd resulting in a win for local hero brocky in a holden.. if they didnt get them on the arches they had suspected illegal fuel in reserve too..
all this also resulted in djr bringing a car to the 88tt at silverstone as revenge and blowing everyone away on outright speed..
