the ATCC read the rules differently to the rest of the ruling bodies and took away the win from the Sierras after the race, lot of local politics involved, they didnt like overseas teams winning the great race.
I remember Dick Johnson wasn't the most popular guy choosing to run a 4-pot turbo rather than a 'Proper V8 Ford'......until they realised he was the best chance of stopping the GT-Rs from winning....or at least giving them a hard time!
At least the Cosworth was a Ford to the Aussie crowds.......the Nissans were never popular with the die-hards on the hill.
