i had a mk 6 rs2k as a daily hack for 4 years and loved it, nothing went wrong with it and only spent on the usual service items, would still have it now if the body hadnt fell apart around me
Yes they aint the fastest but give them death and they do go well, i love my s1 but even i admit the rs2k is a much nicer car to drive, just a nightmare when the timing chain needs changing
Its like a standard joke in central group that they are girlie cars and owners do get stick but nothing like some peeps on here, im wondering how many people slating have even owned one?

one of the owners on the rs2000 site just sold a 350+bhp rs2000 4x4 turbo.
it was only the injectors limiting the bhp,

nice cars imo and the handling of them is much better in 4x4 guise than with just fWD.
they have completely different rear suspension setup for a start.....
lovely daily car and deffo alot more comfortable than a the older mk3/mk4.
On the subject of rs2k vs rsturbo
- i've never been in a mk5/6 that handles as well as a mk3/4 specially on the limit
- the front brakes on the mk5/6 ar the same 260mm items fitted to the 200kg heavier rs2k........
for a grand i could make a standard rst murder a standard rs2k round a track so where is all the BS coming from.

no there not, the brakes found on gti's are far smaller the rs2000 set-up

the the gti brakes are only 240mm on the mk6 i know that.
for a grand i fould fit konis, cossie front brakes(remove abs) and stage 1 the rst(keeping standard turbo)
would see 170bhp/280mm front brakes and good handling- would also leave some money for little bits.

sorry mate i meant the mk4 rs turbo brakes are the same items as found on the 200kg heavier rs2k. both 260mm with the same calipers using the same pads etc.

for 1K you only get 170? and slightly bigger brakes.
1K on an RS would beet that RST on track imo
for instance -
konis 150
bike t/b's 100
m/s 200
s/s 80
ARP bottom end 70
bigger brake 300mm 100
etc etc you'd see around 180 BHP and still have £300 left over.

If the track was completely dry it may be close.

I had an M reg RS2000 4x4 back in 1999 it cost me £5k back in 1999, only had it for about 6 months & then traded it in for a E36 325i. To be fair it was reliable & remember really testing it to the limit in the wet, gripped well. It wasn't that fast & i had a Superchip fitted at Sanspeed which made a noticeable difference but tbh it is probably one of the slowest cars i've ever had ! You had to ring its neck to get it to go & top end was quite poor. Couldn't get exceited about driving one now !

konis- 200
polybushed- 150
300mm brakes- 100
bigger intercooler- 150
stage 2 t3- 300
stiffer front anti roll bar setup
220bhp per ton and load more torque, don't forget the mk6 weighs 200kgs more
300mm brakes,stiffer suspension.
your now gonna tell me you could see over 200bhp n/a for the extra £300 kev
edit- why is the mk3/4 always referred to as having poo handling? any fwd mk5/6 has far worse handling than any mk3/4 i've had and i've had a few of both. neither are special but neither would make up for a big power/weight difference.

you would not say a 4by4 rs 2 was shit if you went in the car with my mate merpo,he used to throw the car around sideways with full power,i have to say them cars are a very good learner 4by4 car as they are set towards the rear which is a good thing.
yes you need to rev them, yes theres quicker cars in a straight line but trust a evo owner and cosworth owner when he says a good un driven fast down lanes that grips well and controls the sideways action is a fun car.
now for fucks sake lets see some links to good cars,is there such a thing as a 1500 quid good 4x4 rs2 that isn't ratty on the arches and sills ??

can we all get on track at ford fair and have a big race to clear this up???
one of my worst moments on track in my mk5 rs2k was having to overtake a yellow mk2 rs2000 it broke my heart but he was holding me up............. like most rst actually.
i love cossies xr`s rs`s and pretty much everything inbetween including oldskool but i cant understand why the rs2k gets slated so much its done nothing wrong.......its just a cheap reliable good rs.

my personal opinion owning one is that they are a gd car, and no way are they slow, there not the fastest but they are fast in there own way, i can easily get 125mph out of mine and gives the newer cars a run for the money, st170 aint got nothin on the 4x4 nor has the fiesta st, handles very well, can put the power down round corners, yes the running gear aint the best but if you look after them then there is nothing saying that they wont last a long long time, only thing they suffer with like all other fords is the rust issue, they could of done with looking a bit sportier coming off the production line but all in all i think there a gd car, being all 500 ever built i think its worthwhile having one as they are very rare and to restore one and have them sitting they will become a collectors, could be wrong but i think the rs2000 4x4 is all in all a very good car

The standard Fiesta ST is a quick car, 150bhp? I had one on my tail at Silverstone last year and I was only just quicker and I was really pushing my car
Here's a link to me following a Fiesta that has a Duratec in it making 180bhp, I think this car has recently been featured in a Ford mag too, and he was holding me up in places

regards rs2000 turbos i owned the first, and the best and featured in loads of car magazine front covers bitd, it was done my the masters of going faster Brodie Brittain Racing who were legends with cosworths and all sorts of other cars, racing cars and even f1 cars and touring car cosworths, i bought it off dave brodie and yeah it was a good car. i still have the fast car magazine front cover feature and number plates off it for a memento,it was radient red like another car i'm aquainted with.
it was j69owl and i think its still out there somewhere.
